Help Video playback

Hi all
Can some one please advise . Playing videos that I have made with a camera that are avi just will not play . I have tried quite afew of the players that are available on the market but nothing works . What file type do I need to convert video in order for it to playback ok ?

I guess the processing power of the wildfire is so low its incapable of decent video playback
