Viewing photos received via text message

When I click an image that someone sends to me by text, there is a stupid bar at the bottom of the screen that shows all the other pics we've sent to each other, which blocks the picture I am currently trying to see. How do I get rid of it?
It didn't really bother me until just a few minutes ago, when I received a picture and the person said to look at the bottom half of the screen, and I couldn't because that stupid bar.

I've also been trying to get rid of those. I can't find anything in the settings

Interesting - which carrier is this? I just checked on my ATT messages app and when I click on an image, I don't have this preview bar at the bottom, but rather buttons to save the pic, etc. When I then tap on the photo again, the buttons go away and all I see is the picture. Does that work for you?
