So I've been searching around and it seems that installing CM10.1 IS possible on this phone.

According to THIS thread, CM10.1 can be installed and be fully functional - all data, MMS, camera, etc. That is the only thread I've found on the subject though...and the author has mysteriously disappeared from that post.

I think we need a complete guide to installing CM10.1...starting with flashing a recovery with ODIN and then flashing root (which is as far as I, and many of us, have gotten.)

The two problems that I personally have run into installing CM10.1 are:
First, the bootloader...it requires a non-ICS bootloader, which was easy enough to flash on my old evo V, but I'm lost on the galaxy, and...
Second, the author mentions having to switch to the md4 firmware. He doesn't elaborate, though, so I'm lost there.

Maybe this stuff is common knowledge and I'm just having trouble finding it...or maybe I just showed up too early to the Galaxy S3 VM party. I suspect it's the latter, and if so I'd love to help by compiling this guide...but first I need to be directed to some resources and answers!

Thanks in advance everybody, and let's all help get S3 development off the ground!

I'm working on cm10 aosp 4.1.1 and may have a booting room using cwm for install. Punk is working with me on testing as I don't have the phone. These other ROMs may work but they are using different lib files than the Virgin Mobile version. While the phone is still an S3 the internal workings are different. It is even the same with the Victory and even the HTC Evo. I am not sure why VM continues to edit kernels and use different libs but it is what it is.

it was pretty awesome to see your original post here announcing you were working on a VM version, and I'm definitely not alone in being anxious to see what comes of it.

if I could ask one question, why are you porting cm10 and not 10.1? I like both, cm10 being my daily driver for the past six months. is cm10.1 still too unstable?

with regards to the topic of this thread, most of the research I've done says that 10.1 is more stable on the s3 (but what do I know, hahaha...)

Mostly kernel right now is why I'm sticking with cm10. Once I get the device to boot I'll try the other kernel from cm. Anyways my hopes are to get a cm10 supported ROM stamped by CM. If it happens be nice to have a stable ROM followed by RC and then daily update. Like all ROMs I have worked on its about stability not so much functionality. Who cares if cm10.1 works if its crashing all the time what good is that? Even on my nexus I'm using cm10. Might not be top dog buts running much better than even androids own 4.2.2.

I personally have already installed CM 10.1 (4.2.2) on the Virgin Mobile SPH l710 (samsung Galaxy s3) using sprints variant. From what I saw there was nothing wrong. All except two things. Like in the previous phone that I had (samsung Galaxy s2). The Apns and radios aren't the same. So the 4g LTE and MMS messaging doesn't work. Somehow it can still connect through 3g and browse data because it uses a seperate APN i believe to send picture messages. If you can just work off the sprint variant of the 10.1 (4.2.2) release you could save a lot of time. All you would need to do is get the 4g to work because i know the MMS APN is :

sometimes it is best to work from the ground up with Roms. the framework and other files are different as well. no worries g60 will get it done. pm him and be a tester and things will happen faster. i would but i need my Daily driver.

I too was able to get cm 10.1 running on my phone. It was great!!! Everything was soooo much better and faster but I also was having similar issues with 3G/4G. I also found a bug where when you are in the gallery selecting a video if you turn the phone sideways it would freeze and the phone would restart. Also, when using snapchat if you take a few videos with the front facing camera the phone will also freeze and restart.

I decided to backup everything in clockworkmod recovery and flash back to android 4.1.2 since the network was so unreliable.
