[Virgin Mobile] NDC / MK5 modem texting & mms questions

I'm on the MK5 modem since forever, I switch between CM 11 and 12.

For some time now, I've noticed when I'm on CM 11 downloading mms is inconsistent and flaky. Previously it worked perfectly - for years I guess. I do apply the apn fix, and I've had it working fine across multiple CM 10 & 11 versions.

On CM 12 same deal if anything it's worse I almost never can download mms even with the apn fix correctly applied I'm aware of the extra steps for CM 12.

I have a family member on the stock touchwiz rom, but pinned at Jelly Bean w. MK5 modem. Likewise mms & texting worked perfectly for years, but for a while now they've been having mms receiving issues, or just don't get texts.

So my question is, at this point do we have to go up to NDC to get mms / texting working 100%? Could that be what's going on?

(I might add yes I am aware of stage fright on older roms etc etc.)

Absolutely. Mk5 is far inferior. Many people are unable to even get a solid data connection without updating. At least to ndc, but better is nj2.

Interesting, it seems odd that they would actually make changes that would break texting on old firmwares that previously worked fine but hopefully that is indeed the issue.

thanks very much for the reply, I'm looking into going to nj2.

Just thought I'd add a note, now that I'm on NJ2 it does seem to have improved the MMS download issue I was having (I'm on CM12 latest stable or whatever it's called now not nightly)

However not 100% I do find some will not download, looks like in the log there's a java exception 'HTTP error: Authorization Required' on the ones that fail. I've had people resend me the same image and have it work when the previous one still fails, so it's not an issue with the image itself or the sender.

anyway I'll pursue this elsewhere just wanted to note here.
