Root [Virgin Mobile] Newbie wants to root-much confusion with 4.3

You can't get 4.3 and not Knox - Knox is part of 4.3.

The question is why you want to root? If you're thinking that will allow you to get 4.3 without Knox (or get 4.3, then delete Knox), it won't.

Unless there's some specific app you want to run that requires root, you don't gain anything by rooting the phone. (What you lose is any and all warranties and insurance coverage.)

You are wrong. I am running 4.3 Knox FREE! Furthermore, you gain much more than that by rooting a phone. For starters, you can get rid of bloatware apps that you cannot uninstall if you are not rooted. You can also put custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod or AOKP (if they are available) on your device if you are rooted. Why are you on a thread specifically about rooted phones if you don't feel it is beneficial?

Anyway, to the OP, read through this thread over on XDA to learn about Knox-Free 4.3

[GUIDE][MD7][MG2] Rooting & Recovery for Galaxy S3(VM)

I used the one above to root and the one from my previous post to install Knox-Free Stock 4.3.

Good luck and as a disclaimer...

My guide found here:

http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?t=799711

Follow this to install a custom recovery to then flash the Knox free 4.3 update. It is the simplest way to go.

Don't worry about the warnings in the guide about Knox if you are still on MG2. The flashable update to 4.3 doesn't contain Knox.

Incorrect.

The flashable MK5 4.3 zip in the "Rooting MK5 Guide" is completely Knox free.
