Did anyone get a text from VM today about how throttling of LTE speeds will take in effect on the 30th if exceeding 2.5gb?

My service is off so idk yet. :( So does this mean that we will have a higher 4G LTE speed?

Throttling doesn't mean what you think it means in this context, it is a negative thing meaning that after a certain data cap, you will have access to lower upload and download speeds. Not throttle as in making a car go faster but as in they want to put their hands around your neck and squeeze (or maybe just around iMaYG's neck apparently!).

More like throwing a big ole governor on that engine. :D

Ohh haha silly me. :p thank you for that little info. Yea I wouldn't have to worry about that much because everywhere I go has WiFi.

Yeah I got the text as well. Also I downloaded 4 ROMs plus 3 DVD rips and about 10 CDs today. I don't care if they throttle my lte speed. It won't work I call and explain what unlimited means and boom goes the dynamite. All it takes is one time and its unlimited all day. I got me .: carbon ROM :. So I'm winning already lol

We received a similar message back in March about 3G throttling. However, it became clear that Virgin Mobile was not entirely at full capacity to measure data usage accurately.

As of this moment, on the Virgin Mobile USA website it shows that my account has used 23MB of data this month. I can assure you this is not true. I would be willing to bet that I have used several gigabytes of 4G data just in the past week.

That doesn't mean that they haven't finally implemented an effective way to measure data and enforce throttling to begin on the 30th. That is possible. I just know we were worried about throttling back in March and they have not been able to enforce it due to their lack of ability in accurately measuring it. We may not be so lucky on the 30th, but we shall see ;)

My account in VM shows only 80mb used lol

If I remember correctly VM has threatened to enforce throttling from time to time but the customers have always pushed back on them and then they have recanted. I wonder if the 4.3 update and the tethering issues are an indication that they won't back down this time.

Possibly, but I do think that the tethering issues that came with the update could also be more of an issue with the tether apps not being compatible with 4.3 and 4.4
I initially thought VM blocked tethering completely or at least attempted to but after searching I discovered there were many devices on several carriers that could not get the "traditional" Wireless Tether app (TrevE mod included) to work. I also noticed that particular app had not been updated since mid summer but the new "WiFi Tether Router" app, newly updated, works with almost all 4.3 and 4.4 devices.
Then again, it is entirely possible that VM along with Sprint is aiming to enforce data policies and restrict tether usage to better serve its far growing LTE network. The more tethering there is, the slower the network and they can't have that...

I didn't get a notification from VM about that, but LTE is slow at home and at work, i just use wifi most of the time anyways.

The funny part is, my 3G is faster than LTE where I reside. I routinely get 1.5 mbps
download speeds in 3G and LTE around 256kbps which is what my 3g was when I had the motorola Triumph.

I was in another area last saturday though and the LTE there was 8mbps.

I'm considering T-Mobile when I get a new phone if VM is successful in enforcing the 2.5 limit

5 GB of full speed 4g is nice and I don't mind the 100 minutes

I think I use maybe 10 of my minutes on VM any given month, I am not and have never been much of a phone "talker" preferring SMS. However, also don't have LTE, so none of that really matters to me right now, maybe in the future yes.

I received the same text right after renewing my service as well, if it is true I will try my best to find a way around it, I depend on high speed 4g everyday

How much data does everyone burn through in a month? I just came from Verizon and would easily go through 10-70gb every month.
