Virus Detected - Help with this notification

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post this but I'll give it a go.

I have a notification on my HTC Sensation that says "Virus Detected - Tap here to get rid of it"

Now I'm not sure what to do, I had this notification before and tapped it and my significant other freaked out on me saying I just let in a virus so I excited out of that program before I could figure out what the heck is going on. It is now saying the same thing and I'm wary about tapping on it.

Can anyone help me figure out if this is spam or a legitimate issue and what I can do to deal with it?

Thanks!

I don't think it's a virus, it's aggressively spam.

Some free apps push ads in the phone's notification bar.

It is known as notification push advertising of companies like
AirPush
LeadBolt
Appenda
IAC
Moolah Media
TapIt
Urban Airship
Xtify

If free Apps contain any one of this named addons they'll push spam on the notification bar :(

Run 'Addons Detector' and 'AirPush Detector' to find out when one of these AirPush addons is in one of your apps.
With 'Addons Detector' use the filter 'Push Notifications'.

Free apps which contain such kind of addon you should uninstall and you'll get rid of this notification bar spam :)
But don't forget to write an review in Market before you uninstall!

AirPush stands as catchword for this kind of spam.
For more info you could search in this forum for AirPush.

I thought that apps that spammed like that were recently banned from the Play store.

And apps that spam like that and claim that they can fix a so-called virus are usually lying and trying to get your money and/or personal info and/or an actual virus.

You'll note that the thread is from the time before those new policies went into effect ;)
