Is it possible to have a virus that will cause this website to open? Or is the only way for a website to be in your browsing history because you went to the site?

Is this happening on your computer or your phone?
The only reason a website will be in your browsing history is if your browser at one point navigated to the site, could be caused by a virus/malware/mistype on a pc/mac, but not that likely.

Uh oh. It looks like someone's "but honey" or "but mom/dad" explanation for porn in their browsing history is about to take a broadside hit.

If it is in the browsing history, it would have had to be broght up on the browser on the phone.

Another possibility is that a Google search on a pc by a user logged in to Google was passed to the phone via Google's black magic and a search for something else brought it up on the phone. A careless click would then launch the site in the phones browser.

For future reference, it's pretty easy to erase the browser history. Or if you have multiple browsers, just keep on that's set to not save history/cache (or just erases every time you exit). I do the same thing if I want to do stuff without cookies.

Not necessarily for the OP (or the OP's spouse, child, SO, etc), but anybody else who might be interested...

On your PC if you have Firefox it has a "private browsing" option :)
