Check out Google Voice. I have a transcript of my voice mails sent to my email, and it can also send them as an SMS.

Can that be used to save off the voicemail I already have?

What would I need to do to get this to work for future voicemail that I get to my sprint number, changing the number people use to call me (from the sprint number to the google voice account number) is out of the question of course ...

Google voice is the way to go. You can get it with a new #, or you can apply it to a phone number you already have. It works great for visual voicemail and custom greetings by group or person. You need an invitation from Google to get it though. If you dont want to wait for that (can take a few weeks to get one) buy an invitation from ebay for $3.00

You can forward the visual voice mail you want easily by pressing "Menu" and selecting "forward". It will prompt for the e-mail address and it will send it as a .wav file.
