    Hi

I just watched the voice search video about android and thought I'd give it a go for performing actions on my phone. The problem is when I say
    "Text John How are you"
it just searches google for "Text John How are you"

Is there a setting I have to change for it to perform these actions??

    Thanks

    Darius

Try "Send Text to <person> message <the message>"

Make sure you say it all in one sentence without pauses. Also make sure you use the full contact name in <person>. So, for example,

"Send text to John Parker message hi John"

When Voice decides you are done, it will present you with a dialog box with the text message in it. You can either tap on Send, or tap on the Microphone to continue the message.

I use this all the time, it's a great feature!

    Hi there,

I'm finding the same thing. I've tried "text {person} {hello}" and I've tried "send text to {person} message {hello}" but it still comes up as a google search for the whole thing. Would love to use this feature but can't get it to work.

For this feature to work, you have to have voice search v. 2.1.0. In order to get this, you have to be on FroYo (2.2)

It does not work for me either. (It never does). I've pretty much given up on it.

Works near perfect on the evo I can say text, navigate or call and it does so with suprising accuracy.

Try using Vlingo, they recently made it free. It's a bit bulky weighing in at 3.41MB, but that's because it's got a keyboard and the inCar (somewhat improved car home), and text reader apps.

    Seems to work pretty well.

    You installed this one?

Voice Search - Android app on AppBrain

    And it still doesn't work?

Press and hold the search button to open up voice search and say "Text <contact name> <message>"

I had the same problem on my rooted Ego 4g 2.2 upgraded btw...
google search and voice search were preinstalled, voice search would not update past 1.6 and when I pressed the mic button it used Google search for anything I said, (check if it says Google search when it says speak now...)

    here's how I fixed it
    Rooted my phone...
Downloaded titanium backup and I used it to uninstall google search and voice search then I rebooted and installed voice search from the market and it works fine.

I've been having to leave a second or two between "Send text to Joe Smith" and the actual message for the voice search to properly separate them.

I have also had no luck using voice search v2.1.1 on HTC Incredible running froyo 2.2. I've been trying to use the "listen to" action to bring up the stock music player. All it does it go to internet or offer pandora/slacker. I've uninstalled the updates and reinstalled from market, no help.
