I rooted my Hero yesterday and loaded 2.2 but the voicemail button under phone just gives me an error when I call trying to retrieve. Any help or ideas are appreciated.

Go here and download the Sprint Visual Voicemail .apk file: How to Enable Sprint Visual Voicemail in CyanogenMod 6 | Market 4 Android . Yes, it says CyanogenMod 6, but it should work for any ROM. If not, let me know.

Then follow the instructions using a file explorer like EStrongs File Explorer to install the .apk file. You can then change the *86 number to your phone number.

As usual, you are right there for me. I have downloaded the .apk. I just want to make sure I don't have to do anything like flashing or any of that like yesterday, right?

Nope. This one you install like we did with Z4Root yesterday.

Also, if you get texts from Sprint every time you receive a new voicemail, then use Handcent SMS to blacklist the phone number from where those texts are originating. It is mentioned in the link I gave you above.

I flashed cyanogenmod7 2.3 and now I'm not able to get my voicemails. They send me a text everytime i get a voicemail, but when I call it, it says my voicemails can't be retrieved.

    Any suggestions?

The same solution I outlined above should apply to your issue. You can also download Handcent SMS and blacklist the number from where the text messages are coming from.

Give it a try and let us know if it helped. You should also consider switching to Google Voice for voicemail.

Once again. Thank you very much LBPHeretic. I think I'm good to go now.

Is it normal for my phone to reboot every couple hours since I've updated to 2.3?

i'm actually getting an undelivered message in my voicemail that says activate@vvm.sprint.com- this message activates the visual voicemail service.

I am unable to open this message and fix anything. I can't find anything under setting either.

Did you activate and setup your voicemail before you flashed a custom ROM? What I mean is, did you setup your PIN and greeting message and whatnot by dialing into your Sprint Voicemail the first time?

To be honest, I would strongly consider switching to Google Voice for your Visual Voicemail needs. It is a LOT less fuss to deal with when working with custom ROM and, heck, even your stock ROM.

I did originally set up a password when I first got my phone. I had dial in for that. I'm going to try that google voice.

Do you know why my phone would reboot every couple hours?

Hmm. I am not sure about the rebooting thing. I have never experienced issues with random reboots on my handset. I never even did way back when I first applied the Android 2.1 update from Sprint last year, let alone with custom ROMs.

Maybe someone else, like DonB or andygu3 may have some insight on this, but I have never heard them complain about random reboots either. I guess you could try wiping your cache and Dalvik cache and see if that helps out. If the problem persists, I would backup your apps and data via Titanium Backup, then boot into recovery and do a Nandroid, followed by a full wipe, and reflash your ROM and GApps. It should not be rebooting randomly like that.

So, basically act like I'm starting over again with the reflash?

Technically, yes. But you would be backing up your apps and data, so that you can restore that and have way less set up after getting the reflashing of the ROM and GApps done.

After you reflash the above items, all you would need to do is reboot and sign into your Google account and let your apps download and then restore the data for the ones that you backed up previously. The most you will have to do is rearrange your home screens again.
