I am struggling to figure out how to set the phone to tell me when I have a voicemail.
When someone calls and leaves a message, I do hear a tiny 'ding.' However, if I come to the phone later, there is no indication that I have missed a call or have an unheard voicemail.

    Help!

Try NoLED in the market. I installed it today on my wife's Stratosphere and it works great.

No indication? Did you check the notification bar at the top of the screen?

Hopefully, everyone knows the answer to this by now, but if not, here it is.

To set ringtone for text message arrival go to
messaging -> select ringtone and select desired ringtone.
(make sure notifications box right above is checked)

To set ringtone for voicemail and email arrival go to
menu -> settings -> sound settings -> notification ringtones and select desired ringtone

The two ringtones will be different. From what I can tell, you cannot set different ringtones for voicemail and email.

if you use the gmail app there is a place inside where you can change the alert tone just for that app

    in gmail go to settings
under account settings click on the account you want to be notified for
under notification settings make sure the checkbox is checked for email notifications and then go into 'labels to notify'
and select inbox then in the popup touch the ringtone box and make your selection in there

i use google voice for my voicemail so idk how the verizon vm alerts are modified
