Help Voicemail update problem... is there a final solution?

Hello!

I decided to post this after trying several steps in order to be able to update my Sprint Voicemail, I tried searching Google and this forum for this particular problem but I couldn't find any specific thread where there is a solution besides using Google Voice, perhaps I didn't do a enough search?

There is this annoying notification message saying that a mandatory voicemail is available, every time I try to download it won't download, I tried restarting my phone and removing the battery but it won't work. Somewhere I read about flashing my phone but I really don't understand this process. I am also getting this annoying notification message saying "You have new voicemail that cannot be download. Call for new voicemail" when I call my voicemail there is no new voicemail.

I would appreciate any hints or links for more information.

ya go to google and get a google voice number for free then add the app on ur phone and it will default to that voicemail .. plus great features. Try that

I know how you feel. I had problems getting the update too. It took 3 days of me clicking update occasionally. It just all of a sudden worked.

The update sucks btw. now it just includes a sprint ad to try out voicemail to text free for a certain amount of time. I havent noticed any other changes.

Took awhile for me too. I tried switching wifi off and making sure I had a good full signal and it still took many tries before it worked.

Thanks for the replies guys, after playing around and reading about Google Voice I decided to give it a try... it seems to be working better than Sprint Voicemail but I still can't get rid of the annoying Voicemail notification update... Perhaps this could be fix by just keeping trying to update but I tried several times already and is not working, I was also thinking about rooting my phone and install a custom ROM but I am still a new user and it will take me a little while in order to learn all this, I also read that since Shift is still new there are not that many ROM available and some people are facing some problems after they rooted their phone.

Any other ideas on how can I get rid of this mandatory update notification?

Exactly what the guy said above, you have to turn off wi-fi and 4g. When I kept getting the message that there was a update available for the voicemail that was the first thing that clicked, turn off wifi and it worked lol.

Make sure you are not updating your voice mail app using the WiFi or 4G connection. This device will work only on 3G connection.

Beautiful! That was really simple, at first I thought you were talking about Google Voice but then I realized you were actually giving me a solution for the Sprint Voicemail update. I enabled 3G and now the voice mail is doing the update correctly. Trying to do the update with 4G or Wifi was my problem.

Many thanks!

Yeah I have the evo shift and had the problem of the voicemail not updating and continually displaying a message. I disabled 4g, wifi and gps and it seemed to update. No more update required message.
