Volume Control Location

I recently got my Note 2 and love it - except for the location of the volume control. It's exactly where I place my thumb and I'm often finding my phone on mute (without knowingly putting it there). I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there is anything to do about it (besides holding the phone lower - which is very clumsy for me). Is there any way to "lock" the volume so it doesn't change accidently? Thanks for any thoughts.

You might want to try a program like RingGuard from the Play Store. It works for me.

It never occurred to me to use an app.
I just placed my thumb higher above the rocker; been doing it since I got this phone on launch day.
