wait, that's just to nominate a phone for consideration for a popularity vote. Seeing as the Evo has been nominated way more than once, I don't think we need to do anything yet.

Repost when the actual voting starts.

Yes, the Apple fanbois are all up in that place. Could be worse, many can't vote because their at&t iPhones don't get data. Others are busy trying to figure out what the heck they're going to do with that iPad they bought and how they're going to explain to their SO's that they NEED to buy 2/3/4 more. Then there are those still curled up in a ball and unable to function on the news that Jes....Steve Jobs is taking a leave of absence.

I'm not that surprised that the Evo is beating the iCrap 4. The Evo is simply better. :)

Actually, the iPhone is winning both smartphone and gadget categories. But, given the size of the user bases for the Evo and the iPhone, it's pretty amazing that the Evo is hanging in there alongside the iPhone.

It also reflects that among all Android phones, the Evo has the highest customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Voted. I like the way the category reads "Tablet PC of the Year", none of those even qualify for that category! And how does a Macbook Air stand up to the Alienware laptop???

Currently, the Evo is up six points over the iPhone in the gadget of the year category. I assume this is because the Apple fanboys are split over whether to vote the iPad or the iPhone as best gadget.

Wow iProducts win everything. How does the iPad win over the mx11? People don't even know what the mx11 is. It could print money and suck your dick and people wouldn't know because they just follow whatever is popular.

The strange thing is that the active users on Engadget are mostly Android users, but the votes are crazy high on all Apple products. Can someone explain that?

All you guys fail to realize that Apple products do what they do better than anyone else, even though their products do not do everything.

The masses to not login to forums to figure out how to fix their device or modify it, they expect it to work perfectly out of the box.

Apple offers a seamless, idiot proof product. Getting angry about it won't make Android products better.

(BTW, the only apple product I own is a 3 year old iPod touch. I am just able to admit the truth.)

    :)

Before anyone bashes my comment, show me PROOF of a competitive product that offers both a more seamless interface and hardware that is better designed than 'x' iProduct.

I understand what you're trying to say. Basically Apple makes things so simple, it's hard not to get stuck or confused.

But I've never had trouble with my Evo. I think everything it purports to do, it does very well. And it does way more than iProducts. But that's me. Apple's products are targeted at the masses; average users who may or may not be tech savvy. I'm extremely tech savvy, and I can handle a little complexity in my devices. In fact, I require it. This is not to say I prefer doing things the hard way. I mean that Android gives me so many options at all levels, and those options don't overwhelm me. They empower me. Therefore I argue that if you like gadgets, and you are a cut more intelligent than the average, then high-end android phones are MUCH better than the iDevices.

When it comes down to it, the most essential aspects of a smart phone: calling people, checking email, surfing the web, texting, running apps.... how complicated can these things be? If anyone struggles with these things on Android, I dare say they'd be equally challenged on an iDevice.

    -edit-
And i would like to emphasize that when I vote for best device, I'm not taking into consideration how well it works for the average person. I vote based on how these devices work for ME. Other considerations, like who has the most market share, who makes the most money, etc is fodder for fanboys. I don't really care.

You are right, Apple excels at making "idiot proof" products, but that does not necessarily make them better at a particular application, just easier to use.

Case in point, (and I will be flamed by the fanboys if they see this) CG. The myth that all Hollywood CG is done on Macs is just that, a myth. Some of the initial design work is done on Macs because that is the system of choice for the artsy types, but the actual CG work is done on PC's running a UNIX variant.

I have a friend (yes, it happens) in Austin who is a hardcore, rabid fanboy. He was arguing with me saying all CG is done on Macs, period and continued his denial even after showing him the Netter Digital website where it described the 18 daisy-chained PC's used to design and render all of the CG work for Babylon 5 to which he responded that the sight was wrong!

I will also admit that since going Intel, they are competitive with PC's now in all arenas, but they are hopelessly overpriced and closed up. I wouldn't touch a computer that I could not go out and buy a component upgrade and install myself.

I must be a complete idiot then. The iPod Touch and the iPhone frustrate me to no end. To me, they are not simpler to use. I have never understood the Apple "one button/ minimalist" approach. Give me some choices!

Yeah, but you started out with the iPod first and then transitioned to the Android products. My wife has a 3 year old iPod Touch too. I have never been able to get completely comfortable with it. On the other hand it took me very little time to get comfortable with my EVO. Different strokes.

I bought my wife a Mac Book about 6 months ago. Again, it's a very nice machine with nice features, especially the mouse pad. However, it is NOT easier to operate compared to a PC. As a matter of fact, I just bought myself a desktop PC running Windows 7 and IMO it blows the Mac iOS away.

There is no way to prove what you have asked.....it will always be up to the individual to decide which product is better.

    +1 I'm an idiot, too.

I hate the "one button" thing/apporach you mention. I (accidently) bought an Ipod touch a few years ago, and have used it less than 10 times.

It forces developers to conform to a simple interface. And promotes a commonality with in-app navigation.

App integrity is seriously lacking with Android.

I prefer the Android OS: Notifications and Widgets.

One feature: 1 Enormous Multi-Touch Trackpad with Gestures

All my computers run Windows 7 (Latitude and a couple of Desktops).

Agreed. However, the iOS and iDevices have much smoother transitions and are much faster with common tasks, most notably: BROWSING PICTURES.

Also, the iPhone's headphone audio quality is MUCH MUCH better than the EVO's; along with video capture.

I actually had an entire list of the things that the iPhone did better than the EVO. However, I still have an EVO, why? Speaking productivity, its better. (Widgets displaying important information vs separate applications.)

It is up to the individual to decide what device they like the best, however, I stick to my original statement:

Apple products do what they do better than anyone else, even though their products do not do everything.

    or better put:

Apple products may be inferior in features, but are superior in implementation.
