Root VZW M8 stuck in TWRP loop.

Hello,

(I hope I'm adding all the info necessary to help troubleshoot)

I'm coming to you after having read some similar sounding threads in here, but didn't quite find the results suited to my situation, so i'm hoping someone can help.

I have a recently rooted Verizon HTC M8, S-OFF, unlocked that was running 4.4.4. I was running this way from a KitKat 4.4.4 RUU after coming down from stock VZW 5.0.1 after their over the air updates (pre-rooted).

From TWRP it keeps boot looping - I can't boot to System - it always boots back to TWRP (2.8.6.1). I did manage, apparently, to flash a TWRP 2.8.7.0.img file - but that only comes up when I select Recovery (from the 2.8.6.1 menu). I can get into Fastboot/USB, but am unable to do anything of use in there - Reboot just takes me back to TWRP.

Powering off, restarting do the same. I've tried recovery from HBOOT, but it just brings me to TWRP 2.8.7.0. I've done Factory Reset from HBOOT and from within TWRP - nothing - it always states a failure.

I've tried installing the rom from the RUU zip file via external SD card. It goes throught motions of its installation process fooling me into false hope, and then fails.

I'm at a loss. I greatly appreciate your guidance and assistance with this. Thank you!

OK - nothing personal - but I'm having trouble understanding what you did.

If it started bootlooping because of a failed rom installation, please tell me which rom.

I need to know which RUUs you've tried - by download link and xda thread. That means the KitKat one you were running and the one that isn't working.

Let's please start there, don't do anything else to your phone so we're not looking at a moving target together.

EarlylMon,
Hi and thank you for responding! Based on other threads i've read on here I was hoping to see you respond :) Sorry if that was confusing earlier - i had just spent the last 4'ish hours trying to get my phone to restart/reset, was super stressed and panicky, and was running on about 4 hours of sleep that particular evening... Sorry it's taken this long to reply back, too.

I was able actually able to perform a factory reset very shortly after posting on here. If i remember correctly, I eventually came across this site: http://www.andromods.com/download-files/htc-one-m8-stock-recovery-verizon-sprint-att-tmobile.html, which led me to this xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159.

I didn't use adb (i suck at using adb...), I'd either connected my M8 through USB (using Windows) or used the SD card and then went into twrp's File Manager and confirmed the files were there (either on the internal or external SD card) so that I could apply the 4.4.4 related files on the above mentioned xda page (you'd need to scroll down little to find them, and others). THEN i was finally able to somehow perform a factory restart, eventually applying them via TWRP. So, hey, that was really really good.

But the way i'd gotten into this was:
I was stock. New M8 (got it for a penny - thanks amazon), Verizon, 5.0.1, stock. After a few months, I was missing KitKat, had finally had enough Lollipop, so I went to see how the community was coming along - because unless you'd rooted earlier than Lollipop, there wasn't a solution. And just recently I guess, a solution HAD been found. This xda thread pretty worked out more or less: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61920423&postcount=3652 (see full thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792487)

And this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845

I was doing great for a few weeks; at this point I was S-OFF, unlocked and loving life. Then I started getting that annoying "Unfortunately the process com.android.systemui has stopped" issue. As far as I can tell, its appearance was unrelated to any apps or operations I'd installed or was performing on my phone - other than then above method I used to root, I didn't do anything else particularly special to the phone! But basically, that com.android.systemui was making the phone unusable; it would pop up repeatedly as soon as I pressed "OK". So I installed TWRP from the Play Store, was going to give Fix Permissions a try, wipe some cache and check out other options. And from then on, I couldn't escape TWRP's bootloop.

Then, as i said, i used the files on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159 to apply the 4.4.4 related files and now things seem good. Ugh, what did i do wrong? I hope explaining my process wasn't too confusing and will maybe help out others.

I really appreciate the time you Mod's in-the-know share with the community. Thanks again for your reply EarlyMon. I'll check back in and hopefully you or others might have some insight as to what/why things occurred the way they did.

Thanks again!
