I know many people are focused solely on the dbm levels their phones are reporting, but isn't there much more to it than that? I mean, I'm no expert, but I just imagine there are other processes going on that one number really doesn't judge. For example, the 4g switching problem is probably not going to be displayed in the dbm levels.

Yes, but I think the reason some of us aren't commenting on the hand-off latency is that we've been rocking the FA02 radios and they already do a terrific job of hand-off.

I just realized I didn't have roaming enabled so I'm not sure if I am now comparing apples and apples, but I found some irc logs from when I flashed the 4.0.4 FA02 leaked radios:

    Compared to now, where I'm seeing -106 / 34.

That's almost a 2x improvement in the signal (-10 being ~2x iirc). I did drop to 3G in my downstairs bathroom where I normally would, but that was before I had roaming enabled. I'll keep an eye on it for the next couple of days and see if I notice a change in patterns/levels/behavior. :)

I'm on a fully stock Nexus on 4.0.2. I would drop data at a rate of about 2 times per hour in areas with high signal strength (3-4 bars minimum), most often right after unlocking it after it being in my pocket for awhile or downloading a large file. Flashed the new update and no improvement, dropped data about 5 minutes after flashing and it occurred 4 more times in the 2 hours since flashing.

This is not the Droid I'm looking for. So jealous of you with working phones, but this thing is going back. Off to wait for an S3/One X Verizon variant. Best of luck to you all.

That is a hardware problem. Have your phone replaced, that's not normal.

Thanks, but I saw that thread before. Too many people on there saying they are on their 3rd/4th/5th/nth replacement with the same unresolved issue. I don't feel like playing roulette with a phone, so I'll wait for the next best thing. Appreciate the tip though.

    So stupid question.

I did the update and everything worked fine. I tried to reinstall cwm but I can't get root. With my newbness I assume they have to reroot the phone since it got updated to 4.0.4 now and thats why recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro doesnt work?

Apologies if this was posted already - I don't remember seeing it - but do we have an official changelog yet on what's fixed/improved?

So the tech support recommendation of turning off your phone and removing/reinserting the sim card doesn't work when you have shitty signal strength hehehe

it will be a while before that happens. If i had to guess no Rom Devs will update their custom roms unless this ends up being the Official OTA.

It appears that Google pulled the .zip file from their servers, but of course no one knows why. Where's my calliope music?

Well, I did notice one difference....

-107dbm used to be 1 bar. Now -107dbm shows as 3 bars.

So at least people can believe they're getting a better signal! :D

So have we figured out if this was some rogue Google release or Verizon screw up? I still don't have the update.

For those wondering, all custom ROMs (AOKP, etc) are built from the 4.0.4 source on AOSP. The files pushed from Verizon will (read: should) be no different than what's already in those custom ROMs.

    Just a heads up.

Its direct from Verizon/Google. It was pushed out to a limited number of phones yesterday in what they call a "soak test". A small number of phones get an update notification, which when it is accepted, prompts the update to be downloaded from Google's server. What we were all waiting for was for someone who got the update notice to track down the link to Google's server so the update could be downloaded directly by people who were not in the test.

Its all standard operating procedure. They do about 750 years of internal testing, then they roll out the update to a small number of seemingly random devices (though I am sure there is some reasoning behind it) to see how it works before rolling out to the masses. Assuming this update works fine, which it seems to be so far, I would expect the full rollout to start in about a week.

Same for me. Installed the update, and I missed a phone call this morning while the phone was sitting on my nightstand. I should have full 3G in my home, but it is scarce with this phone. I'm going to have to look for another option now. As much as I hate to do it, I'm going to be looking at the Razr Maxx or the Rezound, I guess. I can't take anymore of this phone not ringing and then a voicemail pops up. It's driving me crazy and no matter how much I love this phone, not being able to use it as a phone just is not satisfactory.

Have you guys with dropped / missed calls exchanged your phone and / or swapped SIM cards? I'm wondering if its not a hardware issue. Most of the 'signal problems' reported tended to be for people in areas without good signals where they had other phones that would work.

I'm finding that the FA02 radios are working a little better than these new ones.

I exchanged my Nexus three times for the one-way audio issue. Truth be told, I never gave it long enough to test because all three phones had display issues (two were heavily-saturated in red, one was very dim). All three were manufactured within a few weeks of each other IIRC and all had identical hardware specs.

That's what I just did. Seemed to work great.

Noticed a slight dbm improvement. (before and after)

part of the problem is so many things can affect radio reception, its very difficult to do any scientific analysis.
