The power buton on my launch day Gnex is getting squshier every day and is nearly flush with the phone chassis. To me it is a manufacturing defect...do I contact Sammy or VZW for a replacement? I would hope that it is covered by the 1 year mfg warranty.

Any tips or stories of past successes would be appreciated.

Does it still work? I think that might be the deciding factor.

Sounds fishy to me, mine still has a nice click to it, and is well off the surface... I would run by a VZW store and compare to the display model, and if it is significantly different, give VZW a call.

that happened to my OG Droid back in the day....it didn't click after a couple of months and there was no 'give'. I took it to a VZW store.... where the tech guy argued that it was normal and that's how his felt. He pulled out his Droid and it clicked properly. He denied that he could feel a difference. I made him get a manager who tested both and agreed with me.

They had to ship me a replacement that was probably a refurb...and that started a chain of defective refurbs. Took 6 before I got one that worked 100%

    But I digress.

Take it to VZW, they handle all warranty issues.

I hate the thought of getting a refurb on a 5 month old phone, but a phone that I can't turn on is useless.

Thanks to all for the tips. I'll probably have to wait a few more weeks until the button is totally inoperable before they agree to swap it. :(

Mine's starting to get like this, too :(

I noticed a few times lately I'll see a big battery drain, and I check the battery status and my screen was on for like an hour assumedly from the phone sitting in my pocket and the screen being turned on/off over and over because the button is overly sensitive now. Sigh.

I'm on AOPK and turned on the option to wake my phone with my volume buttons.

I figure the power button is more important than volume so always wake it with the volume buttons. Only when I want to power off the screen, do I use the power button.

4.0.4 apparently adds this "feature". Personally I hate that the volume buttons wake up my phone. Arrrrrgh!

Call me a dork, but I wear my phone on a holster so don't have to worry about butt-dialing or waking my phone in my pockets.

I've bought my GN from Expansys 4 months ago, and I've begun to notice that the power button is returning a softer response.

if I depress the top portion, I still get a nice tactile report, but pressing the bottom of the button does not.

pressing the button still causes all the responses it should, it just feels soft or squishy on the bottom half of the button.

I don't see this as a problem, exactly. As long as the button continues to work for the next 1.5years, i'm good.

My power button got feeling like u guys are describing a while back so I took all the screws out of the back and pulled the back housing off to take a look. When I pulled the power button out I noticed some sticky substance around the base of it. I take real good care of my phone and knew it wasn't anything I had got on it.

It appeared that it is two pieces glued together and some of the glue residue had started to seep out and cause the button to not have that "click" feel to it. Cleaned it up real good and has been great ever since.

Which makes sense now that I think about it. It really gets worse when it's hot or humid. I guess the glue makes it stickier. If it gets really bad I'll open mine up.
