Can't get wallpaper to size correctly since running the Android 2.1 update on the Sprint Hero.
The HTC wallpaper shows correctly but the resolution of wallpaper set from my photos seems to be about 800x600. The onscreen size remains the same regardless of the original photos size, I've tried everything from 340x480 down to thumbnail and it stays the same.
Also when I try to load a photo as wallpaper I get a horizontal crop box even though the screen is obviously vertical.
Thanks

What it is doing is squaring off the pictures to be the same size as the HTC wallpapers, but I don't want the heads and feet of the people in my vertical pictures amputated.

Fact 1: The Hero does not do this when selecting a vertical pic for the lock screen, that crops perfectly.

Fact 2: This issue did not exist under Android 1.6.

Please help!

Sounds to me like it's normal. The wallpaper is for ALL of the screens and slides as you move screens.

Yes, I understand about the sliding, but what it used to do (when running Android 1.6) was take the right-sized (340x480) pictures and display them perfectly on each page -- in other words, instead of getting a single stretched photo over all the screens, you'd see a correctly formatted photo which remained in place as the screen overlays slid over it.

This just doesn't seem right, there is, of course, the crop option when selecting a picture but you can't crop the top and bottom separately, no matter what you do you get a square box.

The issue is that the way 2.1 is handling home page photos may be fine for stretched landscape shots, but is totally unworkable for most pictures of people (dogs, cats, etc.) that people were using for wallpaper prior to the OS upgrade.

Thanks again for the help.

If you were running 1.6 it was not the original setup/stock rom. If you mean stock 1.5, I think you're mistaken. Its always worked the way Kelmar explains it to the best of my knowledge. If your source picture is taller than it is wide you will have to crop the image as you explain to make it fit the window.
Proper size for the wallpaper is 640x480 if my memory servers me correct.

Actually, I was running 1.5 with the Sprint late 2009 fixit firmware upgrade, call it 1.5.5.

It was totally stock and handling home wallpaper exactly the way it handled lockscreen wallpaper -- blowing up or reducing the largest side to fill the frame whether it was the horizontal or vertical dimension.

Now it still handles the lockscreen properly, but not the home screen. Since it is only blowing up the horizontal to fill a single panel (it doesn't make it a panarama that fills all the Sense UI screens, I don't get it at all.

Seems like a strange change to make in an update. After all, more people take vertical shots than horizontal ones, particularly with a layout like the Hero.

Note: Tried to fool it by rotating some of the shots horizontally but that didn't work either.

format a picture so that it is displayed correctly as wallpaper. When setting a pic for the lock screen it can be rotated, but this is not possible for the wallpaper. Also whatever resolution a pic is when resizing with the 'little green box' no mateer how you manipulate it not only does the box not allow the whole picture to be included(no matter the size of the pic), it doesn't even display as wall paper the portion of the pic selected; it just basically selects and blows up whatever it wants. Really weird. And frustrating.
