Sorry, Im really a noob here, but can someone walk me through how to install the installable music.apk on my 2.0.1 droid?

i downloaded MusicInstallable.apk.zip on my computer, and renamed it, but i read the instructions on alldroid, and he just says

    "I installed through adb."

Im not really sure what that means, but how did he get it on his phone? I've looked up using adb , but the command promt stuff got my confused.
    im on a mac btw.

can anyone help me get this working? thanks!

Not to sound like a jerk or anything, but I think the moving made everything sort of disorganized, what with all the various posts from the 3 forums all intermingled. Not to mention the fact that mine wasn't really a 2.1 mod per se.

yeah, this is a bit confusing. anyways, it looks like the 2.1 ports to 2.0.1 are considered to be pirated or illegal software, so from now on, there can be no linking to them.

not sure how much longer the conversation will continue, if we cannot link to the actual sources.

still, if you have questions, the answers can be found elsewhere

I see the mods removed the links... aren't these parts of the OS that are open source? None of this stuff has Gmail, maps, etc included. Any device that has Android on it has Home and gallery, even if it isn't licensed.

I didn't delete any posts or anything, just merged them all to one. I also don't have any power to delete or edit threads so don't blame me for that.

@Hegemony - I think they deleted them because 2.1 hasn't been released to the AOSP yet so they aren't allowed to be distributed at this point.

@Rob Stemen - Sorry, it wasn't my intention to mess up your thread. My bad. On the bright side I'm glad you like my sig layout enough to use it :p

That was my point. This home replacement doesn't include the google apps. Its just the home interface. The mod above suggested they removed it because 2.1 is not technically released. So then I would assume that come the 5th we can post this again.

The home interface is an application. Just like HOME++ and the other home "replacement" applications are. It is not part of the OS. It's an application that Google created, therefore, it is NOT open-source.

Dolphin seems slower than the default Browser to me. Also, I don't understand why the developers decided that you have to hit the magnifying glass (search button) to access the address bar. It would have been much nicer when you double-tap and view the tab bar, that you also have access to the address bar.

Just installed the Milestone Browser. Here we go!

Merging the threads didn't mess up any links, they were removed for other reasons. I didn't realize this would confuse everyone so much, but now that it is here you can keep anything relating 2.1 to 2.0.1 mods here.

I'm sure everyone here is now familiar with the C&D order served on Cyanogen not so long ago by Google? Well, this policy is to prevent anything similar happening to Android Forums. It's come from the top, so it's not some knee-jerk reaction.

Btw, using the PM facility to openly distribute links to said files might also be frowned upon.

Is the home interface the same as "launcher"? I was under the impression that that was part of the open-source bits of Android. The cyanogen issue was about the Google apps; things like Gmail, Maps, and Market. I can't believe the launcher would be closed source. There are Archos tablets and prototype smartbooks running Android with the regular home interface.

Seems to me that cyanogen is distributing the launcher. The backup/restore workaround seems to be only for the Google apps. There are apps in Android that are open, right? Isn't it accepted that the browser is open, and what about the phone app? The issue just seems nebulous to me. We just need clarification on what is, and isn't open and okay to post.

None of the standard apps are open source. This includes the HOME interface, gallery, music app, GMail app, combined Inbox app, camera app, etc. All of these apps were developed by Google and are closed source. They are all apps that are no different from the apps on the marketplace.

What is the difference between the "launcher" and the HOME interface?
