Anyone gone through and figured out a list of apps that we can safely rename with root explorer so all that crap won't be loading in the background yet?

Don't rename with root explorer, freeze with titanium. Much easier to restore later.

Do they not do the same thing?

Edit: Hrm, guess not. Anyone know how freeze works then?

its easier to freeze with titanium b/c you can batch unfreeze them when its time to update. if you rename them then you have to go and rename them individually.

Or you can move them to a subdirectory, then when an update comes, move them all back with one command.

I have the following files renamed. I haven't thoroughly tested every feature of the phone, but I've noticed no adverse effects thus far. Somebody let me know if I've inadvertently disabled some app that prevents the phone from self-destructing or whatever.

    BooksPhone.apk
    CityID.apk
    SoundRecorder.apk
    Cmas.apk

Thank God for Titanium Backup. That has been one of the MOST useful apps I've ever downloaded. Sooooo worth the $6 bucks I paid for it.

Once I'd flashed GB and everything was coming back via 'BackUp Assistant', after I'd let all my apps redownload in the Market, I was missing a TON of my apps. And I'd updated my 'AppBrain' and 'BackUp Assistant' just before flashing. I don't know why the cloud doesn't seem to work very well for me, but it never has. Everytime I've ever flashed a ROM, including this one, it never seems to be able to keep track of all my apps no matter what I do.

But no worries, because all I had to do then was open TiBU, click 'Backup/restore', then run 'Restore missing apps + all system data' and boom, it went to work restoring over 100 apps (yeah, I have a TON of apps) that 'BackUp Assistant' had missed. What an awesome app TiBU is, I can't stress it enough to anyone who's never bothered to get it.... GET IT... PAY FOR IT... you'll never regret it. Oh and yes freezing does the same thing as renaming the apk. Only it's way easier/faster.

On a side note, I'm sooo pumped because for whatever reason, 'MusicJunk' is back in my Market again. For some reason it had disappeared when I flashed Liberty, so I was resigned to using 'GTunes'. Which is an ok app, but it doesn't find nearly as many songs as 'MusicJunk' finds. I was trying to download some old 'Kingdom Come' tracks and all 'GTunes' could muster up was 'Get It On' and 'What Love Can Be'. I desperately wanted '17', but neither search engine could seem to find it.

Then once I found out 'MusicJunk' was back in the Market I snagged it as fast as I could, typed in '17 - Kingdom Come'.... and it found like 12 different tracks of it! Haha, now that's what I'm talkin about!

FYI, BlurEmailEngine.apk is required for the stock text messaging app to work.

I don't use any email except Gmail so I renamed all of the Blur email stuff and the stock text messaging app would start up and then immediately exit (no force close).
