Was in a verizon store...

Wanted to check on a few accessories to see if they had them in stock and get a quick look at my account, while in there I spent a few minutes talking to the woman behind the counter and she asked what kind of phone I had, I said I had the incredible (obviously, since she was looking up accessories for it...) this prompted 5 minutes of seemingly never-ending ranting from her on how I should come in a few days from now to check out the Droid X and get it in stead!

She went on and on about how great it would be and how all the accessories I want from it are already in stock, etc, etc, etc, I couldn't find anyway to nicely get out of the conversation, it was ridiculous.

Useless story, yes, but c'mon, Verizon employees, a bit extreme.

Well, they can't sell the incredible because it's not available. It's been a sales nightmare for them. There are quite a few nice things about the X. It could be that she thought she was doing you a favor or perhaps she was trying to make a sale. Can you blame her either way? ;)

She probably gets a bigger commission on the DX.

For the life of me I don't understand why people do this. It's not just Verizon either, I get it at all kinds of stores. I have had cashiers at the grocery store try to convince me not to buy this, to buy that, don't eat that brand, this is so much better, etc.

Unless I ask for your opinion, shut your pie hole. I have zero appreciation for unsolicited advise.

I am really starting to wonder if the Verizon Sales Team is getting some sort of commission or bonus for selling the X. Why else would they be pushing it so hard? If the customer is willing to wait, I don't see what the big deal is.

Well since you didn't ask , let me offer my advice...:p

I use the 3 strike rule , if after 3 times of politely saying "no, no thanks, no I'm really not interested" I feel entitled to be blunt. Not butthead mean/blunt, just firm and with understanding that I am really not interested and conversation is over.

Well I gotta agree with Tera up there, while I can appreciate that Sales Rep try to make sales, being their job, in turn they should respect and understand what "no" means especially if I tell them 3 times.

*you should know better than to mess with a Dinc owner

Maybe they don't get their commision until the phone is in the customers hand and activated? If that was the case, I could see them pushing something else. Also, I am sure quite a few commisions have been cancelled after a customer tired of waiting cancelled their order. It is probably all about cash in their pocket and nothing really to do with the phones at large.

Exactly! There is a fine line between being helpful and friendly and being a pushy PITA.

If I look disinterested, act disinterested and say I am disinterested... I AM disinterested. So stop it with the sales pitch already, you're wasting my time and yours.

And if you keep pushing, you're hurting your ability to sell other stuff that you might actually be able to move.

I would just tell her a Motorola Droid crushed your first born under its massive weight and have sworn off Motorola for good.

Or, if you want to see what she was truly up to, you should have went, "Why shouldn't I just have waited for the Samsung Fscinate?"

Honestly I think its just some kinda deal Verizon has with Motorola. Before Droid X, even in the last days before Droid X was announced.. you go into Verizon store and they push original droid so hard its not even funny.. They all have them on their belts too... cant shut up about them... Before Android was real big, Verizon was the same way about BB's, you literally go into the store knowing what you want all they need to do is sit back and make an easy sale and they try to get you to buy something else...

looking back at this thread , reminded me of another "item" re vzw.
If they don't have an answer to a question I might have, I would rather them be upfront about it and not make one up. In regards to phone specs and abilities, most from this forum would have a better working knowledge of cell phones in general and certain models in particular. What I don't want to hear are "half truths" and misleading sales talk.
    * sorry for the rant and ramble, just looking at my vzw bill , and felt the need to...share my feelings

That's how my friend got suckered into buying the Moto Droid :(

I spent 3 hours on the phone with her going over different cell phones and what she wants. She had never had a smartphone and honestly has zero need for one. She makes calls and texts, that's it.

So she goes to the store and comes home with a freakin Droid. Now in all fairness, she was really happy for about 3 months. She played around and bragged about all the cool things her phone can do. Then she started having problems. Low Memory Error's left and right and her messages getting deleted every couple days. Now she hates the phone with a red hot passion.

She hasn't opened the physical keyboard in forever. She doesn't play with apps. Pretty much everything on the phone is stock.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the smartphones and can't wait to get my DINC next week. But smartphones really are not for everyone. If you don't plan to do anything but call/text, it's way more phone than you need. And way more headache than you need!

I had a fairly good experience. I Googled VZW stores near where I work, called the closest one. They had an Incredible in stock (last one). I walked there in 5 minutes, out the door in 15 minutes Incredible in hand.
