Water resistance fail in a modest casual test

I am baffled by a water failure on my brand new Z3. It almost died even in the modest of scenarios. I.e. under water for just about 8 minutes at a depth of 0.25 meters. And it just went blank. I've written down the whole experience but as a new user they won't ;et me post any links.

Is it a faulty device at my end or are Sony's claims on water resistance so damn weak in reality? I have many people complaining about a similar failure many times before as well, but never thought that it would be this easily possible!

If the fitted port covers were correctly in place, i.e. the water ingress indicators behind the covers haven't activated, then it has to be a faulty device and will be dealt with under warranty.

Sony's track record on this with previous devices is excellent, as one of my fellow mods can attest to.
