Ways to optimize the stock ROM

Alright, so I just wanted to start a thread, where we can outline our experience in optimizing the stock rom (2.73).
For instance I am trying to do the following stuff:

• use only the programs I need
• leave as much free memory on the phone as I can
• disable auto updates I don't need (like weather)
• disable the WiFi, gps and mobile internet when not using

I could say that the phone is doing ok ... well it lags a bit
The only concern I have is when I leave the phone locked for some time and when I need to use It the first minute or two are q pain - everything lags awfully and after that It fixes by itself.
I am not uaing a task killer, cos I founs that the phone lags less (might be just a feeling but its a good feeling ).
I would appreciate any comments and personal experience on that one and maybe a solution for the lag when the phone is not used for a while...

you could try clearing cache. menu/settings/applications and go through each app. i dunno if this makes a difference though.
