I hope that means for ALL of the phones on the upgrade list and not for them to just start rolling it out. That is FAR too long..........

Been trying to hold off on that Root. If Froyo isn't here by August, I'm going through with it.

Also, it would be pretty pathetic for them just to be rolling our Froyo when the new devices will be coming out to crush the current crop of phones.

He's not talking about any particular device...just saying that the upgrade to Froyo for all devices should be done by Christmas. EVO should be near the top of the list. I'm hoping by the end of this month or early next month.

Well The Droid x was said to have it by August, so HTC better be closer or not to far behind. Christmas will be too long to wait, by then newer more powerful devices will be shipping with Gingerbread 3.0

    root? lol

there is already a (for the most part) stable version currently out. give it a few weeks and i'm sure they will have it with sense. xda developers are incredible.

i learned my lesson w/sprint & htc regarding OS updates with my hero earlier this year.

Seeing what happened with the hero, expect a Dec 24th as the day they will delay it another week or two.

Sprint was pretty clear in their Twitter post a week or so ago that it would be coming very soon for the Evo.

I'm sticking to my August timeline...well kind of...before I said July/August :p If we were to wait until Christmas to get Froyo I would be very disappointed.

How does sprint define very soon though? To you and I very soon may be a month but to sprint very soon could mean 6 months.

I am not trying to rain on peoples parades here, just trying to express that people read into things too much and expect things to happen on their schedule. We need to have realistic expectations for updates and "just before Christmas" sounds reasonable after reading a quote from HTC.

Well, keeping in mind that no one but Sprint and HTC really knows the answer here, there are 2 factors I think put pressure on HTC to release a Froyo OTA sooner rather than later. 1) Sprint did say 'real soon'. That may mean 6 months, but I just don't think even Sprint thinks 6 months qualifies as 'real soon'. 2) EVO 4G is getting some serious competition from Motorola and Samsung...they want to keep selling these handsets and need to keep the product fresh. A quick Froyo update is one of the best ways to keep the EVO 4G relevant.

Having said all that, if it turns into a Christmas time frame, I'll be a very bitter man.
