Weather and E-mail app don't update

I have the HTC clock weather widget on my home screen and have the phone set to get email from my aol account. The weather never updates (will show a sunny day at night) and the mail has also stopped updating. Is there a connection? the GPS is on. Sometimes i will get a message on screen saying com.htc.provider has stopped force close? I dont know what that means.
any ideas?

Go to "Settings" and then "Account and Sync"......are they set to sync automatically?
