Help Weird glitch when displaying contacts

In options, I have selected GMAIL as my contacts to display

Now, I add a restaurant named "Ali Baba" using my GMAIL contacts online (on my computer)

I check the phone, if you simply scroll through the names, Ali Baba is nowhere to be found, but if I start typing the first few letters of its name the name magically appears on my phone with the correct contact details...

so why doesn't the name appear in the normal view list without me having to manually type it?

Are you giving it enough time to update?

Go into settings, accounts and sync, and sync your Google account before you check. That'll force the contact list to update.

Go to Contacts -> Menu -> Contacts to Display

Choose the accounts you're only interested in.

It might be worthwhile to also go into Contacts -> Menu -> Settings and choose the contacts that only have phone numbers to be displayed.

Search will search across all contacts. The contacts displayed is just a filter.

The search works on all contacts you have on the phone not only against the filtered ones shown. (would be nice to have search for the filtered ones I suppose)

Also, make sure that syncing contacts for that account is checked under Accounts & Sync
