So I had an odd problem with my Captivate today...
Wi-Fi would not get past the "obtaining IP address for..." for my home wireless network. I've had the phone for a couple weeks with no issues connecting what-so-ever until today...and it happened to two phones (wife and I both have Captivates) at approximately the same time!!!
For some reason, I could connect to unsecure wireless networks around my neihborhood, and my laptops connected just fine, but both our phones could not get past that stage for my home network.
I tried everything (resetting modem, resetting router to factory defaults and setting it up again, messing with the phone, etc) except a fix needing root access that I saw in this forum. I didn't want to get root access unless I really needed it.
Anyway, after searching and searching forums that had many different things to try, one actually worked: Open Allshare. I don't really know what this does, but I opened it, it told me I needed a WI-FI connection, then it connected to my home wireless network. I was able to close the application and the wireless connection has stayed connected!
So, my question would be: Anyone know why this happened?
Thanks!
