Hey, I clicked the "say hi" button and it brought me here.

Anyway I'm Jazz, I joined because I'm trying to find a way to root my HTC Desire. Orange have plastered pointless apps all over it, as well as demo games that can't be uninstalled. It's quite agitating. I tried to do it to my Hero but I had the RUU software version which was nearly impossible to root. Then it got stolen on saturday so I got the desire.

I'm not sure what else I should say to introduce myself! I only know one other member on here, who showed me how to root the phone (Yet I neglected to inform her I had the afore-mentioned RUU version)

    So yeah, HI!

Yeah I had a quick look. I think that's what I'm going to end up doing, but I'm gonna check around for finding ways of getting rid of those applications and crappy demo games first.

Am I right in thinking rooting the phone will make it better all round?

Well, the "crappy" stuff on your phone is called "bloatware." It is intentionally put there by your carrier to generate revenue for them, should you sign up for it. Additionally, bloatware, provided that's what you're talking about, cannot be uninstalled unless you have root (super user privileges). I just removed three programs, last night, myself.

I love rooting. However, you may want to read up on the positives and potential negatives, first. Many, if not most, folks here are rooted.

    Hope that helps!

Yeah I read up on it for my hero before it was stolen. I think that's what I'll do then. I'm quite technical (I think) so I'll give it a go.
