My Girlfriend is going on a 585 mile/ 6 day Tour on her Bicycle starting this weekend in Canada. She will be riding around 100 miles per day and friends/family are asking how they can track her progess. We used to use Google Latitude for car pooling, but Goole discontinued it.

    Are there any apps similar?

Latitude functionality has been integrated into Google+. You can go into the app Settings and look at Location Settings. It's not the same, but similar.

You can also look at My Tracks, also from Google.

I like Glympse for short broadcasts of my location and tracking my progress.

Only thing is I don't know how accurate any of them will be without GPS as she will be pretty remote at times I assume. And then of course, GPS will kill the battery.

Never used this one, but I saw it When I was checking My Tracks in the Play Store for you:

I have Route Tracer but I haven’t tried it yet...

Track your route using your phone’s GPS capability - see your route map drawn while you move
    - View stats while tracking (distance, speed and more)
    - Save trips on your phone and manage them in an easy way.

I've been playing with Google+ location settings and I can't for the life of me see the ability to trace a route. It simply shows current location from what I can tell.

Whatever you choose, test it out to make sure it does everything you need it to before the trip.
