Hi. I was tidying up unwanted files on my SD card and came across the following directory:

    \DCIM\.thumbnails

It contains over 1200 files with names like:

    (1)411868559-fH=183-gH=106-mode=10-AG=0.raw

They are given the type Headerless RAW Waveform by Explorer and are using up about 40 MB of disc space.

Does anyone know what they might be used for and can they safely be deleted?

They are thumbnails for your camera pictures. You can certainly delete them, but the OS will just recreate them the next time you open the gallery.

Thanks, Sitlet. It happened as you said (you knew it would!).

The good news is that most of the headless files related to long since deleted photos so now I have a lot fewer [IMG] .
