General What are these two 'notches' on the front for?

    Take a look at this pic of the incredible S.
    I bought a skin myself, and have been wondering what the two notches just under the speaker, to the left hand side, on the front are for.

    You can see it very clearly in the above picture (it's the picture on the left, the two 'notches' in the skin above the "10" of "10:08").

    Any idea what they are for?

    The skin leaves certain 'holes' for things like camera, mic, buttons, etc. For all the holes in the skin, i can see matching hole/camera/etc. on the phone.

    Except for those two notches. Why have they been left like that?

    I even looked at the manual:

    There is nothing special there.

    What am I missing?

    Sensors. To tell if you're on the phone with it against your head so it can turn the screen off. Also one for auto brightness. It detects how light the area you're in is and adjusts the brightness accordingly.
