Trust me i feel your Pain but i really believe it is the carriers fault on the 2.2 issue. Samsung makes good products and im willing to give them a 2nd chance but i will also be looking at the LG revolution, and the Iphone 5.

iPhone5 will certainly get a look as will any other Non Samsung Android phone when it's time to replace the SF. I've seen the screens and hope that 2.2.1 is really coming soon via OTA

Here is a sad truth. It appears the SGS2 will not come to Verizon :( so no SF2 at least not in that flavor.

The carriers being at fault doesn't hold up when 3 out of the 4 main Galaxy S phones, all on different carriers still do not have an official 2.2 release. Maybe you forgot that Samsung has dropped the ball on OS updates with Android in the past.

Well, whatever your problem is with the phone, Samsung is a company that makes high quality products all around. If you're still running a stock phone, then yeah, I feel your pain and agree this phone sucks.

But all you have to do is root it, put on Froyo, put on Voodoo (which is a fancy word for switching your file system format from RFS to EXT4, like linux runs) and this phone proves to be an awesome piece of hardware. Also, put on the hulu hack, and pow, you got portable free entertainment, not too mention free 3g hotspot with some quick app install.

I hated this phone too and was completely disappointed until I got Froyo, and all the problems it had were gone and this thing now flies.

All I'm saying, is don't blame the phone manufacturer, causes it's clearly a software issue that is crippling this phone. While yes, you have to make the changes yourself, this phone can go from pitiful to literally one of the best phones out right now.

Just when I thought 4" Super AMOLED cannot be topped,.... they go and release 4.3" Super AMOLED PLUS...

Next time I purchase a phone, I'm time traveling 2 years into the future to buy a phone. Then time travel back. Yesssss... that way I won't have phone envy.

we're always gonna want the latest and greatest when its announced :)

id have to think that relatively soon, we ll hit a point where increases in performance and specs will be less perceptible though

Why wait when you can have it now! Plus once you do finally get the OTA you'll realize the developers roms run better smoother faster than the damn OTA anyways. Praise to the chefs for cooking up some great stuff!

nitsuj17, I'm sure you might be speaking for yourself too. Since your profile says you own, Moto X, and DINC and Fascinate.

I as well has been known to steal an upgrade or two from a family members line

I second that, but I'm an instant gratification kinda girl :D I got my SF on Dec 29th and had it rooted with a DJ05 rom on day one! Best move I could've made. I played the waiting game with my Eris and there was no way I was gonna do that again.

Although I understand rooting is a way to go, it seems like we are giving in and its apparently "our" fault that the device doesn't work. Ive rotted before, and unrooted because i was still dumbfounded by the whole process. During that process I lost EVERYTHING that was on my phone. Luckily I backed it up but the average consumer isnt going to think about that... Although rooting is an option, I dont believe there should even BE an option. Either Samsung/Verizon releases timely updates to thier software of they simply give us stock android without going through the semi complicated process of rooting. Im sorry but to me its bad business practices to release a product and essentially drop all support for it, WHILE also releasing many other devices.

Again I may root again, but the point I always emphisize is that I shouldnt HAVE to root. The phone should work as good as phones that were released 6-8 months before this one. And it honestly doesnt. Im done with Samsung after this. They can take thier products and stuff it. If they want to renew my faith then they need to start showing that they give two shits about thier customers and not just making a quick buck off them. I mean Froyo was promised by year's end of 2010...Its nearly march and there is still no sign of it. What the hell are they doing over there? We have devs running 2.2 Froyo on the device for atleast a month now and they dont even get payed, while samsung employees are still fiddling about with the update and they ARE getting payed. What the hell?

    Grrr

Whether you root is up to you. The iPhone doesn't have to be jailbroken out of the box, it comes clean but people do it anyway. People are always going to find a way to make these phones better than the manufacturer did...that's why we root. Plus, updates while rooted are so much quicker than updates plain stock.

I mean, I've had Froyo on my phone for the better part of a month now. I should walk into Verizon and start start watching flash videos on my Fascinate next to the one they're selling to prove a point. There's even an alpha out now for Gingerbread. It's not stable, but it's a work in progress. When do you think the Fascinate's going to get that OTA? :D My guess is never.

Even stock vanilla google experience devices can be significantly improved by rooting. :)

The og Droid was vanilla and pretty slow unless overclocked and running custom rims

The nexus phones come unrooted (but are easily unlocked) and kinda boring unless tinkered with.

I would obviously prefer android phones to all come that way...but if an android phone is in my possession for more than a minute its gonna get rooted and significantly modded :)
