if you aren't rooted now, you will have to wait probably till the end of today, or tomorrow to do it. Incredibles with the most current software aren't easily rootable right now. According to UnrEVOked's twitter account they will be releasing the new version later today.

thanks guys. i rooted once and put custom rom on a long time ago very soon after purchasing the phone. it was through adb commands and such. my phone was so new and i so new to android didnt really need to backup. as soon as 2.2 came out i reverted to 2.1 and OTA'd. since then i have spent alot of time customizing my layout, downloading tons of apps, etc. so i want to ask a few questions now that unrevoked should be releasing new version shortly.

    1. if i root with unrevoked and put S-off will this effect my settings or layout?
    2. is rooting the only way to make complete backup?
    3. if i make backup, is it making the backup with root included? if i decide to go back to bone stock and load backup, will it be rooted
    4. can you even load a backup copy if you revert to bone stock.
    5. can titanium backup accomplish what i am wanting to do?
    6. to clarify what i am wanting to do.
    A. make a back up of stock existing layout, settings, etc.
    B. keep or load a back up of all my apps when i root
    C. keep or load a back up of all my apps when i load custom rom

    thanks in advance

I think you just convinced me to try a ROM. Just got an incredible to replace my OG Droid that I rooted to: install barnacle and root explorer (to delete the Verizon apps). I just wanted to make sure I could go back to my current config if the ROM wasn't what I liked. Thanks for the answers.

Thanks I will check it out. Gonna try Cryo first but I think I want to stick with a sense ROM long term (kinda bored with vanilla Android)
