what is "backup to SD" on non rooted phone "hero ,android 2.1" mean?

    what is "backup to SD" on non rooted phone "hero ,android 2.1" means?
    on application Appmonster ,i see 4 options:
    lunch,uninstall,backup to SD & search at market,what "backup to SD" does? i remember that i read somewhere that just with rooted phone is possible to run apps from SD,is it different with 2.1 ?

    Backup to SD means you backup your app to your sd card. It basically means you create a copy of the app on your sd so you can reinstall it without accessing market later on. Its not the same as apps2sd which is where you install an app to your sd card and run it from your sd card. Apps2sd is only for rooted phones

    Please note that whilst it does backup the applications, it does not backup the associated data and/or the link of the apps to the market. The latter means that you loose announcements of new versions when they appear after a restore.
