    It its the proximity sensor that turns off the screen when you hold the phone near your head when talking.

    Thats a front facing camera, t-mobile has it locked, but you can turn it on by downloading secret software. I unlocked mine... I use my front facing camera everyday now............. :) J.k... those are sensors, for example when you put the phone to your face, it senses that, and shuts the screen off, when you pull the phone away from your face, it lights the screen back up.

    There is also an ambient light sensor there to automatically adjust the brightness based on how bright it is when set to auto.
