I turn it off to save battery life. Open kindle to read and kindle locks up after a short while. I then notice that the wifi is now turned on and about 30 apps are now on draining power and memory. I close out everything, sometimes reboot, turn off wifi, rinse and repeat. Same thing.

Can someone help me figure out what app(s) may be turning my wifi on when I don't want it?

Using LG Spirit 4G, Android 4.0.4 with MetroPCS.

Could it have something to do with Metro's new easywifi app?

    Hi MikiSunshine,

I'm not familiar with the Easy Wifi app - but you could try uninstalling or disabling it to see if the issue persists.

    Good luck!

I can't uninstall it. It's a MetroPCS's app for finding wifi spots. I did uninstall the recent upgrade but it didn't change anything.

Are you able to Disable the app?

Nope. My only choices are force stop and uninstall updates. ill try force stop but I guarantee it will load up again next time I turn my phone off and on again. Will update tomorrow if this helps or not.

ETA: didn't help. app loaded up again after restart

Nope, can't disable the app either. And I'm not even sure that's what's causing the issue. Could be another app that's turning on the wifi. I have an auto backup app but that's scheduled for early morning hours. I don't know how to find out which app is the culprit, if any.

What happens if you use airplane mode? That should take preference. Are you reading while a passenger in a vehicle? Searching for wifi is a big battery user.

Even my really old Nook has airplane mode.

I'm home and don't want to turn my phone off which is what airplane mode does. I think the final disable of easywifi did the trick. I uninstalled the upgrades, then reinstalled them. I didn't turn the app on but I did get a pop up asking me to turn the app on which I denied. Wifi hasn't turned on by itself since. Yay.
