Been using Handscent for awhile now. Started with Chomp SMS, can't remember why I switched though.

I personally use ChompSMS and it works better than the Stock app (in my opinion).

Handcent here as well. The number of options in it is staggering. :)

Well when I rooted my phone it basically wiped everything. I didn't restore my apps right away so I used the stock app for a while. I got accustomed to it and wound up never restoring Handcent. It's plain and doesn't have all the features and customization of Handcent but I'm doing fine without them :)

Handcent is good, but as one message comes, two apps appear the message notification. It is a little bothered my usage.

Test drive, test drive, test drive. You can poll all you want and still not figure out what's best suited for you. Handcent and Chomp are both free. Even if an app isn't free you have 24 hours to return anything purchased via the Market. Figure out what you prefer. What's popular isn't always the same thing.

If you are going to poll people at least ask them why to see if their why's jive with your own. If someone likes one app because of a reason that doesn't matter to you then the suggestion is irrelevant.

You need to turn off notifications in the stock app. Oh, and Handcent for me :)

I'm using the stock one now too. I used to have have both Handcent and ChompSMS but, like another user here, I found my way back to the stock app. I also use SMS Popup to compensate for what the stock app doesn't have. Works great for me.
