What should I do?

  2. Keep the refurbed phone, it's just a small gap and some visible glue and besides ghetto-fab is in.

Simple question really, I'll leave this up for about 24-48 hours. A few days ago my phone was acting up (no data connectivity). I called Verizon and they indicated that there was probably something going on with the phone. So on Saturday they ordered me a new one. Even though my data has returned, the phone on occasion would go blank on me. A simple twist of the chassis would bring the screen back (I know, so ghetto). So I get my refurb from Verizon today, and I guess the previous owner of this phone had a cracked or broken screen. There is a nice little gap at the bottom of the screen where it appears that the repair company didn't seat the screen as nice as they could've, and I can see some of the glue that they used to seat the screen. Compared to my phone, the gap is obviously there, and the glue is even more obvious, especially since it's somewhat orange in color. So I'm taking a poll to get some feedback on what I should do. I've even added a smartass answer for you smartasses out there!

If it is that noticeable, get it replaced again. Simple :)

Im in the same boat as you. I had received a refurb because my phone was having issues and the refurb had the same problem you described. It was not put back together properly. I sent it back right away and Verizon sent me another one via one day shipping. The next one had a f'ed up power button. It was recessed into the case and extremely hard to press. I am now waiting for my 3rd refurb. I figure eventually I will get a decent one.

God I hope they aren't sending me the ones that you're rejecting. haha. But this refurb's power button is also recessed even though mine's recessed as well so it's no biggie for me. I don't like how they put the glass back together though. Have you spoken with Customer Service about this being your 3rd refurb? Maybe eventually they'll just cut their shipping costs and send you out a brand new one?

I have not asked them to send me a new one yet. If they keep sending me junk I will eventually have to ask them to do somthing different. I am very surprised at how bad the first 2 "Certified Like New Phones" were. I didn't even have to really inspect them...they were crap.

I would take the phone back for sure. If you paid for a new phone and you needed a replacement i don't why they sent you a crapy refurb.

I bought a refurbished phone and it's perfect, so if they can get me a nice phone, they should be able to do the same for you.

Take a picture of the refurb and go to the nearest local store to show them what they're sending you, seriously! PCD (Personal Communications Devices, formerly UTC) is the company responsible for sending you the refurbished phone that you received. Currently, they're under contract as a third party vendor wherein, they are the ones that do the repair work and are terrible at it. You may have a sympathetic manager at the store exchange your product on the spot for a new device. What's the harm in trying?

Taking a picture is important for record keeping as it may be the next product you'll receive won't be in any better condition, although I hope for your sake it is.

Don't count on a brand new replacement. I went through 10 Droid Incredibles for different issues but the main one was a rebooting issue, yes the same as the TB. They refused to give me a new one but "did me a favor" and offered me an early upgrade to the TB, at the $250 price.

This poll sucks. I want to answer two answers. Make them take that crap back. That is absolutely unacceptable imo. A factory refurb is supposed to be LIKE NEW. Not "Well, it works". Make em eat it and dont stop till YOURE satisfied. Its exactly what I did with my moms D2. She went through six phones before they said screw it and handed her a DX. lol.

They are hoping eventually they can send you a shotty device and you drop it or screw it up and have to file a insurance claim or pay for a new device out of contract. Once you enter refirb hell you are stuck there short of hell freezing over.

I think you should try for a brand new one. I'm on my 2nd CPO phone, I'm not looking forward to #3.

My 3rd refurb was not put together well so a 4th refurb is being shipped out now. The bottom wasnt attached again. Im at a loss as to how they inspect them and let them go out this way. The tech support guy tried to tell me its very rare to get a bad "Certified like new phone".

4th refurb came in. Everything looked great and I was going to keep this one but I opened the case to look at the water damage sticker...well the water damage sticker was gone. Somone had removed the water damage indicator. So this one will be going back as well.

Are you saying I should not send this phone back? Why would I keep a refurb that may have had water damage?

Im just glad I checked for the water damage sticker before sending in my phone. If I would have kept this refurb and had issues down the road I would have been out of luck because water damage voids the warranty.

Take it to the store or call them up and have them notate it on your account. If you have a working phone finally, why would you risk getting another one that doesnt work? Take it to the store and have them handle it.

Well an update, I called and asked them for a different replacement on Thursday, and asked them to ship it to a different address on Friday since I would be out of town. I get an email later Thursday telling me that my new phone is in transit to the new address. The only problem, the Verizon agent put down the wrong city....sigh. So I called Verizon on Thursday again, told them that they got the right street address, just the wrong city. So they told me that they'd correct their mistake and have my phone sent to my old address since it was past noon and they couldn't have it shipped by Friday (I explained to the agent that I'll be back home this week). So they said the phone should now be here on Monday. Friday I get a call from Fed Ex, "We have a package for you but we can't find the address"..... No single image does this justice so.....

Ouch. That really sucks, and Im sorry to hear youre having that many issues with something that should be so easy. I understand that the stores are "small", but IMO, they should always carry atleast five loaners in the store for every phone they carry and have it on an auto replenishment system like they do for DVDs at any grocery store. Its not a hard system, nor is it something that only a Rocket Surgeon could do. Hopefully your replacement works and doesnt cause you anymore issues.

I got my 2nd refurb today, and as I started to set the phone up, I went to type into the screen and I hear a small snap. At first I thought maybe I didn't snap the back on correctly. Upon further inspection, apparently whoever put this phone back together didn't seat the glass in correctly. I can type near the top while holding the phone in landscape mode and the screen literally sinks a small amount, not a whole lot, but enough to make a noise since it's rubbing against the outside trim. If I look closer, I can see near the top of the screen where it has a nice little ridge where the trim sticks out, but it slowly disappears as the screen itself begins to stick out past the little trim. I know I'm being a little bit anal about this, but I just want my replacement phone to look like mine. I'm not asking for a miracle am I?

Oh and one other thing I've noticed about all the refurbs I've received, the outside plastic case that surrounds the front speaker and the front facing camera, on mine the plastic has a more metallic look to it where the refurbs are rather dull and look like more matte as opposed to having a metallic finish like my current phone. I guess in order to save some $$$, HTC or Verizon are using cheaper plastic for the front trim. Go figure....

I stopped reading there. Take that crap back. That type of thing is irresponsible. A sticker missing? Id be fine with that as long as it didnt screw my warranty, but a defect like that? Hell no. Thats unacceptable.
