What sort of money can be made on Android?

Hi,
first post as just got myself an LG Optimus to replace my aging iPhone 3 and very impressed so far. Thinking bout porting an app I have on the iOS platform to Android.
Looks like Ad supported is the only way to go so what sort of money can one expect to pocket with say upwards of 100,000 users or more with in App Ads only or is this a "How long is a peice of string question"? In short what sort of numbers do you need to have before the app becomes self supporting?

I have two apps in the Android Market, each has a free and identical donate version, and both are ad-free, so I can't speak to how ads can affect your income.

Android: A Hobby or Business?

The initial goals for my apps were to:

1) learn about Android programming

2) give back / contribute to the Android community (hence, I released each app as free and only created donate versions from requests by folks to show their appreciation)

Anyway, there's no simple answer to your question (as you've already alluded to). Hope the above helps .
