My phone died today, guess I forgot to charge it...But anyway when I connected it to a charger and turned it back on, literally everything crashed (launcherpro, youmail, weather, etc) and it reverted back to the default home screen. After looking for changes, so far it looks like the root was also reset to default and any apps that I installed outside of the Market have been deleted . Guess this 4.0 Android update really wants me to do it...

[UPDATE]: Looks like my phone is FUBAR and everything just keeps crashing now. I've tried reinstalling the crashing apps and restarting the phone but they don't fix the problem.

P.S. Pretty sure I censored the "language" that you deemed inappropriate

Merely rooting a phone won't cause this, something has gone wrong with his handset.

My most recent backup was over a year ago...-___-. What really pissed me off was that 4.0 update, after my fone just destroyed itself the update was still there and I decided to update. BUT it stayed on the update screen on "Rebooting..." for an hour so I restarted it, the update notification didn't show up and when I checked for system updates in the settings, the 4.0 update that's been bugging me since it came out wasn't there anymore and still isn't...

Hmm... so this is not a discussion of "What is hell?" ;)

Lesson to be learned here is to always keep a CURRENT backup of any electronic data. My Home computer has a daily backup (via an internal 2T drive) and a monthly backup (via an external 2T drive that is kept at my office at work). My phone is not rooted and thus is backed up via ASTRO for older APPs and by my home computer via a USB cable monthly.
