    Hi all

Got my desire today :) got it from CPW on 3 so it is unbranded. Not had chance to get it out yet :( having 18 month twins does that, it robs a man of free time!

Anyway, I have no idea what I will be facing once i switch on for the first time, but do you reckon the 2.2 update should be first on the list? Or get to grips with 2.1 first.

Also, I expected that a SD card would be included with the phone? Not looked at anything yet i.e instructions but from a quick look, there isnt one there. Not a major issue, SDs are cheap enough on play if it is just the standard type.

    My suggestions...
    Fully charge it.
    Download;
Silent Boot - to get rid of the harsh start up tone.
MSN Talk - assuming you use MSN.
Facebook - if you use Facebook.
Barcode Scanner - Useful for grabbing apps direct from websites.
Astro - a good file manager.
AppBrian App Market - for a wider range of app downloads.
    3 - a good music player.

Another question to all: Is the only place for apps via the marketplace? Or can you get them via a pc and upload them?

it is but you can also use it to scan a QR barcode and think you get an option to download the app or you can fine a QR for say the GQ site and you scan it and it gives you the option to go to said site

Charge until the green light appears atleast without switching on in my opinion (should take around 2 hours) Should be ok to fiddle on the mains after this, i left it on mains for about another hour to get the 3 they recommended but an hour was on mains with it switched on

Give it a good 3 or so hours on charge, and you'll want to add gmail anyways so you can log onto the market (or appbrain).

As for the QR reader, I like quickmark. Also check out apps like Dolphin HD, poynt (or places directory), and jorte calendar.

Oh and mine came with a 8GB SD.

You will be able to set up a hotmail, but you need a gmail account to gain access to the market place. It lets you set one up through the phone.

Nice one. I have a gmail, Its not my main account though. I can sync it with that accout as long as I can make the hotmail account the default or at least not have the phone alerting me every time the gmail gets some junk mail

Pretty new to Desire myself, had it two weeks now. Yes, they come with a 4GB card inside. That lasted me all of 3 hours before I decided it was too tiny and went back to CPW for a 16GB one. I have a lot of music :) If you do get a new microsd card, make sure you get a class 6 one.

Pretty soon after i started using mine, the 2.2 update notification came, and I upgraded straight away. I figure its better to do that when you haven't much on the phone, so if anything goes wrong, its not too much of a problem. Mine installed fine.

Also, from what I've gathered over the last few days, you have to install apps via the market, you can't download and install via a PC.

    Cheers,
    Steve

I was rather annoyed when I bought my phone that the salesgirl unboxed it, put the Orange SIM in it, powered it up and proceeded to fiddle with it, to get the IMEI number. Rather annoyed and taken aback with all this, I pointed out that its on the box to avoid having to do such things with a new phone.

Anyway, that blew any thoughts of charging fully before I used it. I turned it off once I got hold of it, but nonetheless, I thought that was a bit cheeky and presumptuous. I hope it hasnt had any major impact on my battery performance.

    Cheers,
    Steve
