We had the computer revolution and all the crap that came from it.

We have the Internet and the stuff that provides. Facebook, Google, iTunes, Intellectual Property theft, porn . . .

We have Tablets and smartphones and things like applications, Google Play, iTunes, The Android Market, etc.

These are big changes. We cannot seem to live a decent life without them. The computer, the Internet and the portable phone are not new ideas; they are improved versions of old game changers.

Your granny once called you on her phone so the phone is not new. In its day, it was a huge game changer. I am looking for things that will revolutionize and astound and amaze. And do not think for a moment this will be an easy question to answer.

Moveable type changed the game. The automobile changed things, the telephone was a game changer as was the internal combustion engine and the Cotton Gin and penicillin and (my favorite) the A-Bomb..

So what is the next big thing? Any guesses? Perhaps discovering we are not alone? Cures for bad diseases, a new form of personal travel perhaps?

Forget microprocessors and computers and software and the Internet. They will change, evolve and improve but they are not new ideas. A molecular PC might be considered to be a game changer. Being able to transfer your brain's contents to the web would perhaps change things.

What I want to know is what is the next big thing to arrive that is fundamentally new and will transform the world.

My guess is it will be preceded with a lower case "i"

Either that, or some biological something that actually kills three quarters of the planet's population. So do not limit your replies to the good; the bad and the ugly can often change things.

maybe a bad volcano erupt, a war, basically something that will cut power and life and will be something like mad max, going way back in time to start all over again, hey you never know????

transporter (star trek)... would totally change everything.

Clean Free re-usable energy... that is huge.

Fast than Light travel.. that would be an eye opener

end of marriage .. contracts to have children and support

medicine / drug .. to stop our body's DNA from deteriorating over time.

taking yourself / mind / conscience (tron) .. into the computer world.. play in a virtual reality

I think the next big think will be the ability to do something with food. almost a honey I shrunk the kids type thing. Computers and biotechnology is nice and its facinating however people still go hungry in the world and I think the person who could find a way to make food grow in any condition or any soil / with out soil, anyone who can make it so cheap as its free. Think of how it could revolutionize space travel.

i still think we will self destruct ourselfs. from the year 0 to 1800 not much happened. from 1800 to 1900 a few things happened. from 1900 to 1950 some has happened. from 1950 to 1980 or 90 alot has happened. from 1990 to now we have blown up out of control. just think about all the accomplishments over all those timeframes? either we will progress into the like startrek kind of lifestyle or self destruct.

i guess time will only tell?

Don't forget Quantum computing! They have already made a computer calculation with quantum computing, they have also made transistor like valves for a molecular type computer as well. Engineers are working on both solutions because the age of Silicon computing is nearing its end.

Food and water will be next. We are having a drought, Europe had rain. Excessive amounts of dry and wet are not conducive to food production.

Clean drinking water is also finite.

If circle pivot irrigation depletes the Ogallala aquifer, there would be no more water for irrigation. Colorado is home to 5 major rivers - no heavy snowpack. no water.

with more food and better water supplies.. this would lead to a very bad future with over population.. that brings a host of real bad problems.

we would need a huge break through in recycling and power supply... or the shiiit will hit the fan.

i say the next big thing will be colonization of the moon! i mean we already have a robot on mars sending back pictures and collecting and analyzing for us millions and millions miles away. who is to say that we can't colonize the moon?

Lots of reason why it would be very difficult to colonize the moon. I do wonder why we want to live there when there is so much available realestate on Earth. It is said that you can fit every man, woman and child on Earth in the state of Texas and that leaves lots of space left over on the planet.

The problem is resources and the fact that man was not designed to live on the moon or in space. That said, we humans know how to make unlivable places liveable.

Perhaps one day we will place a colony on the Moon or perhaps we never will. A colony assumes that we can solve some serious problems. Not sure scientists know the answers. Hells Bells, forever, they have been telling us Pluto was a planet and now, apparently, it ain't.

This is a very cool concept, here's an article that I stumbled onto today about a more practical application of it:

If they actually did it. Not sure if they did or not. Perhaps they are seeing examples of some other phenomena that has nothing to do with teleportation.

I recall sending information to Bermuda a few months ago. Today, I will send info to the AF. So I got them beat. :D

I have asked the team to get back to me when they beam me a pizza and cold case. Then they have something to brag about.

Ancient aliens living under the Martian surface. They'll claim to be the genetic engineers of man, manipulating our DNA for centuries... and that Ancient Aliens TV guy will freak out. And when he runs though my town (I'm assuming he'll run to all the towns telling everyone he was right) I'll high five him. :five:

Hmm... I'm not quite sure what it'll be. Probably a renovation of the patent laws :D

now.. you are just being silly! it has to be something believable that has a chance to actually happen!
