Help What's with the lousy signal

I know that they told me not to worry about bars at Verizon, "as long as you have a connection you are OK"
But I don't understand why I can sit next to someone with a droid X that is getting 4 bars and I only have 1, many times none (both in 3g and 4g) So this can't have anything to do with the Verizon signal. Is this something everyone is experiencing? I have had two TBs and they both did this, the first one kept dropping the internet, this one stays connected but its mighty weak. Maybe I am obsessing over nothing... in which case I will cease and desist but just checking what everyone else is seeing on this.

Well, the 2 phones that I have sitting in front of me all show the the same number of 'bars' (being 4)
The thunderbolt and Droid X both have 4 bars and show roughly the same signal strength in the radio menu (*#*#4636#*#*) @ -69 and -71dBm
The Thunderbolt shows a slightly better signal level @ -69dBm.
It is on LTE and we all know that the Verizon LTE band has slightly better building penetration.

If it's that much of a difference there may be an issue with your device.
Can you compare it to others @ a Verizon store?
You can pop open the radio menus on both devices and make sure you are using the same base stations. (BID,SID, and NID need to match.)

I would be willing to wager that with such a drastic difference, if all the devices are using the same base station that you have an issue with that device.

<sigh> you may be right. I think that when they swap phones they give you refurbs, some are worse than the original. I was hoping it was an issue that everyone had and it would be fixed on some sort of update.
