    Hi everyone,

I have just flashed my Hd to cm7.1 and want to know when to update my radio. i read in some forums that they experience dropped calls and was told to flash to an updated radio. I have tested calling to another phone and left it for 10mins and there were no drop outs. But when or how do i know when it is time to flash to a new radio? if cm9 comes out will i b required to do it? My current radio is 12.56.60.25u_26.10.04.03_m

My advice is to always flash the recommended radio. However it is really only essential when using a Sense based ROM to ensure the RIL file contained in the ROM is speaking to the radio correctly and to get the best battery life from the ROM as the devs will have built many things around the recommended ROM. You can still use your stock/old radio so long as you flash the relevant RIL .zip via clockworkmod/recovery.

With AOSP ROMs such as CM its not all that important as they don't use RIL files. Still however it has been known that certain radio's can conflict with AOSP ROM builds resulting in dropped calls etc.

The benefit in both circumstances is that using a recommended radio tends to benefit battery life. In ensuring the power the phone gives to the radio elements is at its most efficient.

There's a bit of a stigma around flashing a radio. Whilst it can brick your handset if not done correctly, it is very, very easy.

I think that radio is fine for CM7 btw, so there's no need to flash a newer one (although there's no harm in doing it either). I'm currently using 26.14.04.28_M with no issues.

Actually i just gave up on CM7 and went with RCmix3d 4.0 because of the calibrate g-sensor issue and the very low wifi. Should i update my radio or it'll work fine with this version? i'm looking at [RADIO][LATEST: 26.14.04.28] The HTC Desire HD Radio Thread - xda-developers and im trying to figure out which is the right radio to use. How do i know which 1 is for me? Th RCmix3d is freshly installed so i haven't really tested it yet.

There isn't a recommended radio for RCMix3D ;) I'd recommend finding the RIL associated with the radio you already have and flash that.

Flashing a RIL is relatively safe compared to a radio. Let me know the radio your using at the minute found in MENU>SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>SOFTWARE INFORMATION and I'll get the RIL for you :D

If it's ok to ask. Still how do i know which radio is the right one for me if i ever need to flash it for any reason? can i just flash it with 26.14.04.28_M and expect it to work or will i just see a nice brick? do i match the protocol version and match it with one of the numbers? Like some ROMs might say
    "Recommended for this ROM 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M".

Sorry for being a pain but that was in my mind when all this began and i would like find out how to use it and close it off for me.

Just read your replies, just need to make sure you flashed your RIL after the ARHD ROM? Doing it before won't acheive anything as the ROM has one included for use with the recommended radio rather than yours. So the RIL must be flashed afterwards to ensure best compatibility with the ROM. If you never have any intention of flashing the recommended radio for the ROM your flashing and want to keep your own you don't need to know which is the right radio just keep the RIL file you've got and flash after everytime you change/update your ROM. If you flash the recommended ROM you don't need the RIL as thats included in the radio.

If you do use a recommended radio but wish to go back to stock you don't need to worry about finding the right radio/ril as the RUU sorts all that out for you. However if you want to try alternative radios use this thread: [RADIO][LATEST: 26.14.04.28] The HTC Desire HD Radio Thread - xda-developers and experiment to your hearts content.

Hey guys. Also running RCmix with same radio as dragon and I see that it goes from full signal to nothing but mostly hovers around 3 bars. It does drop a lot.

I have downloaded the file as above, do I just flast the file through the recovery on cwm? Or so I have to go through that whole thing that they explain in the other threads?

    Thanks

Just flash in cwm you'll be fine.

Simply put, you don't. The best radio for you may vary depending on your network and even your geographical location, I find it best to stick with a radio that works unless you are having issues or there is an obvious conflict with your chosen ROM. So in essence if it ain't broke don't try and fix it.

So updating the RIL didnt really work. Still losing signal a lot, was on the phone yesterday for around 10 mintues, it didnt cut out but lost voice a lot.

Any ideas? What would the next step be?

    Try a different Radio/RIL combo.

I've uploaded the the one that works best for me and isn't the recommended one for my ROM:

Thanks, downloaded it, may be a stupid question, but do i first flash the RIL and then do the radio? Or how do I go about doing this?

I do radio first but doubt it would matter.
