You're probably wondering if apps/widgets are syncing when the device is not active.

Short answer (if that's your question ;)): not really, but sort of. But the syncing queues at the servers are collecting the data that might come to your device the instant you turn the screen on (in the case of autosync) or when you manually sync, such as when you invoke Weather Bug or a news widget. Emails and messages alert the device if you have it set up to do that (I use an app for that which shoes icons on the locked screen blinking when stuff arrives).

Yes that's what I was wondering If much was going on to take my allowance.

Was trying to compare it to my computer and understand the differences also.

So if it is locked is all email is on hold till I unlock it?

How about text messages, and obviously phone calls?

Also when it is locked is it impossible to dial 999 accidentaly?

Some things in the system have to remain active when the screen is asleep and/or locked, of course. Clocks/alarms, CPU (very slowly and minimally, of course), etc.

But, there are apps in Market which track and display the history of running services, so you can later look at what was going on when you were not using the device.

There is a "running services" list/menu in menu > settings > applications > running services, you probably know about. You can look at that list and write down what's running at that moment, then compare it to the history app you might get from Market, etc..

Not bothered about the history app really at the moment Maybe later when I have mastered everything else lol
(The main problem hitting the wrong number to dial by mistake) lol

If you have syncing set up for email and messages, they'll come in when locked and your notifcations will invoke, as long as you have your device set up that way and/or have an app for that purpose, such as NoLed, etc.

As far as dialing goes, when the screen is blacked out by sleeping or locked or inactive due to the proximity sensor, you cannot dial.

I guess screen is only blacked out if it's in sleep mode. Then we can not do anything except putting it back to active mode.

After bringing the phone back to active mode from sleep mode, the phone should be in lock mode if lock is enabled. From this screen, emergency numbers can be dialed.
