So, when do you guys think the EVO will be rooted? I know fresh made a name for the Hero but who will make their name for the EVO? Pretty excited about this phone and I would expect a root about 2 weeks after the phone is out. any thoughts? Also, what do you think the processor will be o/c to?

well i cant wait for somebody to root it and cook a rom. the possibilities are incredible. hopefully the will be alot of exploits that will make it the phone to have.

i am hoping someone will have a 2.2 Rom done ...

maybe 2 months after release of EVO or at least by Xmas!!! :D

Can someone define "rooted" for me?

the phone .. comes protected.. from miss use and attacks from outside (virus / hackers)...
The ROOT of the OS (android) is block form causal changes. You only have access to what is necessary to run the phone. Similar to USER access/permission on your office computer. Any big changes are only allowed to be done by the network Admin.

Rooting.. give you the super permission access to the ROOT of the OS (android). Here you can do anything you want to the phone... Good or bad changes.. it is all at your hands!

heh me and a mate were just talking about rooting. i believe work on the Incredible has been started. it should use the same process as the Evo i would think.

edit: yes, work on the Incredible is almost complete. by the time the Evo releases, or shortly after, we should be good to go.

That's kind of what I figured, but for some reason I was under the impression that since Android is "open" or whatever, that you already had access to everything on the phone. I jailbroke my iPhone, and it was definitely worthwhile. Of course with Apple, doing so gives you access to a bunch of apps that they don't deem worthy.

android is an OPEN Operating System.. true.. for programing and compatibility. (Linux underneath)

the phone and Root directory is closed off.
