My friend has the EVO and he got it. What's up with the mt4g getting it?
ive had it for a while now courtesy of XDA. when we will officially get it....i dnt think tmobile even knows. it took the mytouch slide almost a yr to get froyo so we may be looking at the same timeline.
Someone e-mailed T-Mobile about 2.3 for the MT4G, and they said it would be released in Q2 of this year. I think they may have reneged or "mis-spoken" on that though because Q2 ends on June 30.
as soon as you hack your device and install a 2.3 mod. I doubt that we will ever see an official 2.3 update from t-mobile. They are usually concentrating on new devices instead of updating old ones.
I wouldn't hold my breath. As already said, June 30th is approaching; and I just double-checked the T-Mobile site and there isn't a trace of info regarding the 2.3 upgrade for our phones that I could find; nor is there an upgrade option in the support section.
If T-Mobile drops the ball on Android 2.3 for MT4G users, I just may root my device and get rid of all the bundled crap I don't use/want (put 2.3 on on there- or better yet, Honeycomb) and be done with it.
I've already done that to mine. I rooted and put RoyalGinger 2.3.4 on it. Works great and I have access to Netflix now.
I haven't rooted my MyTouch 4g as I have been waiting for the 2nd quarter upgrade. If I don't receive it by the end of the month I will also root.
Bah! I just double checked and it looks like they aren't offering smartphone support with Honeycomb (tablet device only), and it doesn't look like they plan to. Guess it will have to be Gingerbread 2.3.4
How stable is the RoyalGinger 2.3.4 mod. I've been wanting Gingerbread on my MT4G for awhile now but DON'T want to root it and have risk of bricking it because I have no idea what I'm doing. However I'm getting very impatient waiting for a damn update.
Oh it's great...very stable. I looked at all the ROM offerings they had on XDA before I chose RoyalGinger. I can't remember the exact reason why I picked it over the others, but I think it had to do with being 2.3.4 (some were 2.3.3), and it looked like it had the fewest listed bugs. I haven't had any trouble with it in the past 3 weeks though.
I have rooted a G1 before, but I was in the same boat as you about rooting this phone. I finally just decided to dive in and see what happened though, and everything worked fine. The biggest problem I had with rooting was getting ADB to recognize that my phone was connected to my PC (there's an HTCDriver on your phone if you decide to root and have the same problem).
The 2.3 update for the G2 leaked already, tmo just hasnt pushed it out yet, so the MT4G can't be too far behind
