Where is setting for "Favorites"?

The Do Not Disturb setting has an override that allows calls from "favorites" to not be silenced. I don't see any setting to designate anyone in the Contacts to be a "Favorite". Where is this setting?

  2. Along the bottom of my stock Phone app I have a Favourites, Recents or Contacts tab/icon. I can add favourites to the first. Oddly my Nokia mentions Starred Contacts exceptions under Do Not Disturb rather than Favourite Contacts, but it's the same result.

When you're viewing a contact, there's a little star near the top of the screen, like this, to the left of the pencil:

    favorite.jpg

Press it, so it's filled in like mine. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but maybe that's how you make a favorite? [All I know is that the contacts I've starred show up in a handy-dandy list, preceding all my other contacts. I don't use DND so can't speak to it.]

  4. I don't think the OP asked for the simple, easy way, but OK.;):D

the basic things some like me forget

On my phone the "favourites" are called "starred contacts", which is consistent with how they are presented in the contacts app. It sounds like the OP's DND settings and Contacts app aren't quite so well aligned, but they will be the same thing.

  6. As on my Nokia with Android One. Favourites on the phone app, Starred in DND settings. Go figure, though it doesn't surprise me. Google just add new menus and layers willy nilly :p

Ah, yes. I was talking about the Contacts app, which shows them as "starred". The Phone app does show them as "Favourites", though with a star icon above the word which provides some clue to the connection. So no, not fully coherent.

As a matter of interest my Pixel 3a is quite intelligent in that it automatically makes frequently used contacts, both incoming and outgoing, 'favourites'. They can be removed from the list of course and adding or removing contacts from the list is straightforward.

Yeah, unsurprisingly my Pixel 2 does the same. Of course one person't helpful feature is someone else's annoyance, so I spent some time fighting a battle with this feature until I persuaded it to stop ;).

So far it hasn't made any mistakes, they have been contacts that I would have made 'favourites' myself.

    :)

Oh, it was far too keen to add people in my case. Possibly because I don't make so many phone calls, but to my mind the section is called "favourites" rather than "frequent", which isn't the same thing. For me it's particular people whose numbers I want to be able to find quickly, regardless of how often I call them/they call me.

(I do also have a low tolerance for such features generally. Browsers that see you visit a site more than once and so add it to the browser's home page annoy the hell out of me: if I want shortcuts there I will choose which ones myself thank you. And I think that's me generally: I prefer to set interfaces up the way I want, and I just don't want the software changing things based on someone else's idea of that)

I must admit on the point of what I would call 'interfering with useless information I wouldn't seek for myself', i agree totally, but if it's in any way useful I don't necessarily object to it.

I guess it's a case of keep the useful and get rid of the crap.

    Thank you everyone.
I "starred" a contact and now it shows up in the "Favorites" list in Contacts. I don't know what that really means. When I have a chance I'll enable DND and ask that person to call me and see what happens.

  14. Your favourite Contacts show as quick dial tabs on the phone app.
In your Do Not Disturb exceptions you should now be able to allow who you like.
