right now i have the original mytouch with the 3.5mm headphone jack, and i am looking to upgrade.

the 2 that seem to be the best are the g2 and the galaxy s which releases this month.

i also read about the htc pyramid, would it be best to wait for may to get that one? even if thats the case, i still would like to know whats better out of the other 2 i listed or if there are better phones i didnt see yet.

I'm switching to T-Mobile next week and picking up the Galaxy S 4G. Make sure you are familiar with Samsung devices before you purchase one. Many people dislike TouchWiz (the user interface) and Samsung is a bit slow on releasing updates. These are moot points for me as I'll be rooting and using a alternative ROM.

Many people like the MyTouch 4g. It personally didn't feel like it was for me when I tried it out but you may feel differently.

Depends on what you want. Screen size? Interface? Ease of rooting and installing custom ROMs? Keyboard or not?

For my needs, I'd get the MyTouch 4G. It's got the same internals as the upcoming Incredible S but a slightly smaller screen.

what i want mostly is a good chance the phone i pick will continue to get android firmware updates, and i would like to root the phone and use custom roms.

so with that said, would you reccomend the g2,mytouch 4g, or samsung galaxy s?

also just between the mytouch 4g and the g2 whats better overall? im kind of leaning towards the g2 out of the 2 as it has a phsyical keyboard. but other then that i dont really mind either one.

One advantage of the MyTouch 4g and the Galaxy S 4G (being released next week) is that they have a front-facing cam. Don't know how important that is to you though.

Go HTC. They generally do updates for about a year, then drop support, whereas most other developers do either no updates, or one update and abandon it. Bonus, if the phone is T-Mobile branded, then you typically get more updates out of it, though they tend to be slow. Also, HTC's phones are usually easier to root and load custom ROMs than any other brand.

I'd go with either the G2 or MyTouch, depending on how much you need the keyboard. If the keyboard doesn't matter, the MyTouch has 50% more RAM and a 25% faster CPU, same GPU. Overall, performance is better on the MyTouch, but the G2 is no slouch.

See above. Again, if you need the keyboard, the G2 is the one to get. If you don't care for a keyboard either way, I'd get the MyTouch. Lastly, and I could be wrong, but I believe the MyTouch has HTC Sense on it, but the G2 is stock Android. Sense is the preferred interface for many, and if you want stock, you can always run Cyanogen.

Personally, I like the G2. Stock UI so it's easy for HTC to update (TM just need to add their bloatware, I mean programs, and that is it. Capable of hotspot right now. A good phone. About the only thing I don't like about it is that not having a modified UI can have somewhat of a downside.
